Severe windows update troubles.

This has begun to drive me crazy. This one clients computer will not get to windows update successfully. You goto windows update, and it just freezes there with the message saying that you should say yes to accept the activex controls when that window pops up, however the window never comes. Furthermore, when you simply X out of windows update cuz it accomplishes nothing, you will get a error report message. And finally, if you try to reinstall components of IE6sp1 you get a message saying that you have a new version of IE than the installation program you are using, when Im using the newest IE installation program.

Things I have tried:
Cleared out all existing adware/spyware/malware programs, including but not limited to so CWS variants, Search Assist, WintoolsA and SAHagent.
Clearing temp files and WUTemp files.
Resetting internet explorer settings
Deleting internet explorer registry entries and reinstalling IE (getting the newer version error with this though)
Deleted internet explorer directory and reinstalling (This worked but did not solve the windows update problem)
Ran windows XP repair.

 

Update. Cannot DL any file apparently with IE, tried DLing Firefox, but it just froze and also crashed.


(It is windows XP SP1)
