A MAN who gained international notoriety for breaking into a Cairns adult shop and having sex with blow-up dolls yesterday said he had a "pretty healthy" sex life.

Different people have different definitions of healthy. Likely something he was put up to and was protecting the friends that did it.

I was in the 24th Med Evac U.S. military hospital in Vietnam back in '71 (I'm an old fart). I was in one of many open hospital wards with lots of beds along each wall of the long room. Each of us had a small table next to our beds with a drawer to keep a few personal items in. I was 25 yrs old in the U.S. Army and the guy in the bed to my left was 45 to 50 yrs old, a U.S. Navy Petty Officer.

Around 10 or maybe 11 PM each evening was "lights out" of course so we could sleep, except at the nurses' station that was midway down the long room and remained a beacon of light and soft conversation through the night.

I woke up one night about 2:30 in the morning and heard some soft rhythmic sounds coming from the Petty Officer's bed. I looked over and that guy was going at it with an inflatable sex doll (yes, they had them even then) -- right there in an open hospital ward with probably a dozen other guys close by and 25 or 30 more farther down the ward. Not to mention the nurses up at their station.

Guess it got lonely on those long months at sea (this was before they had women aboard U.S. Navy ships) and maybe he had developed a fond attachment for his uh gal.

I understand him not offering to share, but I'd have thought out of politeness he'd at least have introduced me. But when I woke up the next morning she had apparently been tucked safely away in drawer in the petty officer's bedside table. I never did see her again.

P.S. Yeah, I know what yer wonderin'. Me too...when did he wash her up? Let's not go there though.
