Starting this Monday evening (26 September) Jews around the world will be celebrating Rosh Hashanah (Head of the Year) the Jewish New Year. This is the year 5769. Rosh Hashanah is the birthday of the world, as it was on this day that G-d created Man on the 6th day of creation. Every year, on this day, we proclaim G-d as our one and true King. Most of the two days of Rosh Hashanah is spent in prayer. There are many tradition associated with this holiday. We also have festive meals and it traditional to eat sweet thing at these meals. We eat a piece of apple dipped in honey as a symbol for a sweet year. There are many other foods eaten each with it own meaning and symbolism. We greet each other with the blessing “L'shanah tovah tikatev v'taihatem” which means (May you be inscribed and sealed for a good year).
My blessing to the forum is
May you and your loved ones be inscribed in the Book of Life for a very sweet, healthy, happy and peaceful New Year.
