For all of the hunter's out there, my camera captured this image a few nights aho. I must say, I have people begging me to hunt in this patch.

This patch is about 1 acre, I have 3 camera's on this patch, this picture was taken at the rear corner of the patch. From what I can see, this appears to be a 13pt. buck.

He only comes out at night so he's a smart one, I just can't believe this really. When I get him, I will show some more pictures :D

deer meat is the best;) around here after they tote them around for alittle while they take them skin them and process the meat.

Tell me about it, I still have some deer sausage from last season, about 30 lbs. in the freezer. We had some deer hamburgers about a week ago and they were fine!!

I won't need sausage for a while, but I need some more hamburger meat and loin. During all of the hurricanes when the lost power for so long, I made sure my deer meat was on ice the whole time :D

I have an account at the locker plant, I can get you just about anything you want. They have so many people drop off deer and never pick them up, they keep it and sell it.

How would you go about shipping frozen meat?

A1??? That is like putting ketchup on your eggs. Only if they aren't cooked right. Pure venison is the way to go.

Best ham I ever had was Boar ham, no. not Boar's Head ham.. Boar ham as in my father killed a wild Boar and a butcher slice it up.. Now, I'm very picky and I don't like ham much, but this was by far the best ham ever!

Never had wild pig. They do say it tastes far better than commercial stuff.

(I just made myself a yummy BLT sandwich :p )

I use them all, in this patch I only use a rifle because if I see him I want to know I can hit him.

If I saw him and I had my bow, I would miss everytime I shot I would be so nervous. With my rifle I have a little more control because I can use my tripod.

I do some hog hunting, it's been about a year since I've been. A buddy of mine got in trouble for hog hunting. Two of his dogs got cut up real bad from the hog and he took them to the vet to get stitched up and the vet reported him for animal cruelty for using the dogs to capture hogs. He was fined $500 I think it was and ever since everyone around here is kinda nervous to go. LOL!!!

Wild hog is some good eating, right before christmas we had a little get together played some music and cooked a hog. My dad's brother has a grill he uses for hogs only, he cooks the whole hog.

You talking about some good eating....mmmmm

I hears ya Cleetus, sure beats raccoon. :D :p

That's the law in most modern countries. If the vet suspects animal cruelty, they must report the incident.

I had a guy shoot a hog right in front of me one year. The dogs were right behind him and it was moving so fast thru the brush, all I could see was a blur. I had a good brush rifle at the time (Marlin 336, 35 Rem.) but I was afraid of hitting one of the dog's. He shot it and when I saw it flip it probably wasn't 10 or 15 feet from me.

It was a big one. :)

Dang, I enjoy the rush when hog hunting because if your not on your toes at all times you can get hurt fast.

It's an awesome feeling though, knowing the risk and everything. But its worth it when you get a big one and show it off.

That depends on how open-minded the buck is?

You would also have to file down the antlers so you don't get stabbed. :)

That is an awesome buck...let me at 'im! :p

Our son in law is in the taxidermy business and also does other related products, such as anything made out of deer or elk antlers including lamp bases, fireplace poker sets, keychains etc. I'll post his website once he gets it up.

@Huggy/NJ - we only eat deer burger in our house. Once you've tried it and how unfatty it is you just don't want to go back to chemically loaded beef :)

    @BJ - shoulder mount?

This was an 8pt. weighing in at 195lbs. :D:D

Great stuff. What did you use for the tomatoes? Bow, Shotgun or hand grenades? I find that hand grenades are best if I'm planning a mess of spaghetti sauce, but otherwise I'll use a bow.

Yeah, It dropped as soon as it was hit. That's usually the way I do it when I hunt. I missed only one this season, it was about 500 yards away running so I did pretty good.

That's good, and how it should be.

I've seen idiots that couldn't hit the side of a bus try to hunt, and the result is the poor animal gets wounded, then dies a prolonged and painful death.

Anyone ever tried dear steak slowly cooked in the over, seasoned and smothered with mozzarella cheese, tomatoes and other toppings?

:) That picture brought back memories from when I use to hunt.

Why would you want to mask or destroy the flavour of fresh venison by smothering with cheese and toppings?

My husband would have a fit if I suggested we did that to deer or elk steaks. Now mass-produced cow with injected antiobiotics and a bunch of other crap...YES!!!!

Yeah, for farmed stuff you need something to kill the taste. :)

But fresh game meat, never. I would just serve it with spuds and a salad. YUM.

  46. bjgarrick

The best way to cook deer hamburger meat is to make big patties and grill them slowly. As they are cooking poor beer all over the meat, do this about every 10 minutes until they are done.

You talk about some excellent tasting hamburgers!!! :D

    I'd rather drink it! :)

LOL!! I don't drink so it doesn't bother me, you can barely taste it but it flavors it just enough for it to taste wonderful.
