It's a well known Aussie recipe, pouring beer over your BBQ steaks and sausages.

Mmmm, makes my mouth water just thinking about it. :)

You have to have fried onion though. You can't have a BBQ without the onion, and lots of it.

Believe it or not I only had two, mine are so big you can't eat more than that.

Yup. I like mine hanging over the bun. Kind of, "we need bigger buns". :)

Yep! Luckily Wal-Mart has the extra large buns and you talk about a burger. The last time we cooked out, ending the hunting season we cooked at least 40 burgers. Some of the women said "I can probably eat two", well after they saw them and got thru eating they may have ate a third of one. LOL!!!

What do you do with the deer guts, fur and hoofs?

  9. bjgarrick

bjgarrick MajorGeeks Admin - Malware Expert

The guy at the locker plant takes it all, he gets the legs and makes like gun racks and things with those. He has a container for all guts and unwanted stuff, the fur is taken to a local shop we have and they make things with it.

LOL. Sounds like good times. :)

I have a camper in a campground on the lake and every Saturday (in the summer) we have a big cookout. It started as a fish-fry but over the years people bring everything, it's really nice.

One older guy there cans carp.

I'm picky about fish, I love bass, bream and catfish from any pond/lake, but around here I will not eat anything from the rivers. When I go to the river and catch a few I usually give them to the old black couple that fishes the bank everyday with cane poles.

Now salt water fish, I love me some flounder.

  12. Matacumbie

We always have a bunch of Bluegill. Cut in strips, drop em in a deepfryer, chill, and eat it like shrimp cocktail. I could make a meal on that. ;)

I'm pretty lucky here in wonderful Australia.

There are still plenty of great fishing spots (until the Indonesians fish us out), where the water is pristine.

Nothing's more fun that spinning a few lures on my G Loomis rod and Shimano Chronach baitcaster.

Then, when I don't catch anything, it's down to KFC for a feed. :D

Now that's my attitude, If I go hunting and dont kill anything I have meat in the freezer, I'll cook that.

If I go fishing and don't catch anything, I go to the catfish house rest. :D

When I'm not catching much I hit the bank and look for arrowheads, or just tool around and enjoy the water. :)

LOL! If I'm in the river and don'catch anything I will usually pull up on a sandbar and swim for a while if it's not too cold. If I have people with me, we do a little skiing, LOL!!

  21. Insomniac

That's why I enjoy lure fishing more than bait, as it keeps you a lot more involved rather than just sitting there.

I've yet to have a day when I haven't caught anything, although they haven't always been keepers.

On bait I caught a 6' eel once. This thing was huge and mean, and they can move on land pretty quick.

Almost as fast as I could run. :)

    Dang, that's big!

The biggest Large Mouth Bass I have mounted was 10lbs, needless to say he's hanging on my wall.

Catfish, my record was approx. 120lbs, caugh him on a trot line with a few friends about 2 years ago.

  23. Matacumbie

    Flathead catfish, I bet.

It was actually a blue cat, we caught it a half mile downstream of a lock and dam on a trot line. It was the largest we've caught, we have several smallers ones, 50, 70, all the sizes. The Alabama River is loaded with big cats and a few large BASS. My largest White Perch is right at 2lbs, felt like I had a whale on the end of the line it fought so hard.

  25. Matacumbie

    Matacumbie Rocky Top

That is a big blue catfish. I caught a big flathead in a gill net right below the dam, we were tagging sauger, it had to be 100lbs. Reset the nets about 100 yards downstream and caught him again.

Dang, that would be fun catching him again. I love catching huge catfish, they are fun. We had one a few years ago, we was in a small 12 ft. Aluminum boat checking the line and there was a blue cat about 60 lbs....needless to say when we was getting him off we kind of flipped over. Thank God we didn't have anything but pliers and a few life jackets in the boat or else we would have lost everything.

It was quite a day at the river, it took me and about 5 other men to get that damn boat to the bank.

Are they any good to eat?

A lot of fresh water fish can taste muddy.

  28. bjgarrick

bjgarrick MajorGeeks Admin - Malware Expert

Like I said, I don't eat anything from the rivers around here, only ponds and lakes will I eat the fish I catch. The bigger the fish the tougher the meat. The small cats, about 4 lbs are the best. Just like deer, a 200lb deer doesnt taste as good as a 120lb deer.

  29. Matacumbie

I like Freshwater fish, but I can see if someone is used to eating Saltwater fish that Freshwater fish might have a different taste. I have never noticed it but some people around here that cook carp always soak it in water overnight before cooking it.

Carp here are a huge pest.

They get used to make fertiliser they are so worthless.

BJ, I meant the species in general, not necessarily from your river.

As I said, freshwater fish taste muddy in my opinion.

The only one I've tasted that was any good is Barramundi, and they aren't a true freshwater fish.

I thought you meant around here, I will eat just about anything I catch. I like just about every type fish there is like Bass, Bream, Catfish and Perch. I like some saltwater fish but not many. I ate some one time that was absolutely horrible. It tasted like rubber and mud with a little whale shit in it, gah it was horrible. I don't remember what it was but I never did go back to that place.

I'm surprised you don't like saltwater fish.

It was probably a one off, you should try them again.

They taste far better than fresh water fish.

Anyone who has ever tried Coral Trout will know what I mean.

They're about the best eating fish available. YUM!

I like saltwater fish, but like BJ, I prefer freshwater fish ( trout, catfish etc). I like turtle and alligator too but can seldom get them out here.
