Should I be worried about buying something for my computer from China?

I've heard stories about trojans and viruses that are now inbedded in chips, so now you have to worry about that too on top of finding such things in software. I've also read the antivirus software only works for checking software not hardware.
I just purchased, through ebay, a usb foot switch from a company called tomtop (based in China). It's a 3 pedal unit with software that allows me to bind a pedal to any key on the keyboard ( great for playing any game, especially the first person shooter such as any of the call of duty games). It works great and the software checked out fine with nortons, but do I have to worry about anything unwanted being inbedded in the chipset for the footswitch?? I now it sounds a little paranoid, but I'm not up on all this technical stuff.

I agree. The only thing I heard about was the electronic picture frames trying to infect computers. I can't see where it would be worth someone's trouble to infect a relatively obscure piece of equipment like yours. And of course many electronic components are made in China and end up in practically everything we use no matter where we eventually purchase the product.

I'd say enjoy your foot switch.
