imo it doesn't look all that good when you actually see it.
    i'd go for a MX1000

    Its still typical MS.

Dressed up on the outside, same crap on the inside.

400 dpi mice are a wave of the past.

    There are better alternatives.

As Fleppen said, the MX1000 is nice.

I am currently selling mine however, as I like the Razer Diamondback better.

I own the RazerDiamondback mouse and it's nice, (made me retire my mx700)
I would either get one of them or a MX1000 ( I have heard wonderful things
about them-and I love logitech stuff, nothing but high quality parts) especially
if you play games, or want to impress your friends ;)

Geez, I read your posts and feel inadequet, I got my MS Basic optical mouse last Nov. for $14(us) and got a $7 rebate, but, can ya really beat that for a optical wheel mouse? ;)

I just bought an MX-310 last month. Love Logitech. The shape & button placement seems to suit my hand the best. Since hand size/shape varies, there is no one "best" mouse for everybody.

I've always been curious about the dots/inch spec on mice. Since your monitor usually has something like 75 dots per inch, somewhat higher if you're running a really high resolution, what advantage is 800 dpi? You're still only moving the cursor image 75 (or whatever) dots for that inch.

Personally, I still love my Logitech cordless desktop, the mouse that came with it is great and never had problems with it and the software that comes with it is easy to use and easy to customize. :)

DOH! I think I just answered my own question. Say your mouse sensitivity is set to 3" mouse movement for full screen travel. But you've got about 14 or 15" of screen width. Each inch of mouse travel controls more than an inch of screen travel, so more dots/pixels.

I got a cheapy logitech (cordless cup click? somthing like that).... I was tempted by the logitech desktop, but I couldn't justify the spending. Plus I can take this mouse with me for my lappy ;)

Haha! Nice. I've been using Microsoft's 4 button optical mouse for over a year now and have had no problems. It gets alot of use. I think i paid $50 Cdn... can't remember, but i'm cheap, so it wasn't expensive. The 4 buttons are nice for gaming. Thats the only reason i bought it. Don't even know if they still sell it. Just don't get cordless if you game.

This mouse is fairly comfortable to use. Mine is corded, but a cordless is also
made. tiltwheel scrolls side ways as well as up and down.
