I was about to buy 64 bit mobo and CPU(links below), then I read this:

"The industry is transitioning to 64-bit but it's not there at the moment and there will be the usual growing pains getting there. That doesn't mean you can't buy 64-bit processors and motherboards. It doesn't even mean that you shouldn't. Thank goodness many people do as soon as they can so they can find all the problems for the rest of us. It just means you should go in with eyes open. Besides dealing with first-pass hardware, keep in mind that the full benefit of 64-bit cannot be realized without an operating system that supports it. Windows XP 64-Bit Edition will not be available until the last part of 2004. Even then, chances are it will be a rush job and pretty buggy."

The hardware is up to spec. The AMD 64-bit is fully backword compatable with current 32-bit software. The differance is that you CAN upgrade to a 64-bit OS when one becomes available from Microsoft, or you can go for a 64-bit Linux OS right now. I am in the process of building a system using the AMD 64-bit processor.

    Take care
