What OS are you normally running on that X2, can I assume XP? If Vista then I don't see why not if you have already bought W7, just do a clean install instead of an upgrade. I don't think I've ever heard of someone waiting this long to install something they bought.:confused

May I ask why you bought it? Anyways, it's way better than either XP or Vista with little to learn. Enjoy.

right now im running xp, and i got it becuase it was part of a package deal for parts i got that are going into a friends new computer, the question is whether or not my dated hardware can comfortably handle this new os

Absolutely! Your hardware is just fine.:) I ran W7X64 just fine on my even more dated X2 3800+ w/2GB RAM. However I can't talk much about games as I hardly game. You may want to upgrade your 7800GT though as the vid card is usually the main bottleneck.

You may want to post in the Gamer's forum to see what you might need according to the games that you're talking about. If the 7800GT already does fine, then forget about that.

EDIT: There might be issues with older games and W7 so check them out if they need a patch for W7. Perhaps you may want to dual-boot with W7 if they won't work but that's another story.

augiedoggie is absolutely right. I still Win 7 RC (Release Candidate) on a system with a Pentium 4 CPU (2.66GHz), 2GB of RAM, and a GeForce 6200 (256MB) graphics card. The WEI (Windows Experience Index) is only a 3.0 (graphics being the lowest rated factor) but even this runs the Aero features in Win 7 fine for typical non-gaming use.
