    Hi everybody !

First of all, I would like to apologize if this is in the wrong section .. I just joined, and, as you will probably be able to tell by the question, I don't get much about computers. So sorry :)

Anyway, I'm having some trouble with the sound on my computer. I was messing around with my audio settings because my computer wouldn't record sound and my microphone wasn't working (I think). Basically, I screwed up the Microphone settings and my computer started shrieking ! I have no idea what I did (sorry for being unclear) but I couldn't bear the noise, it was a really high pitched and loud sound .. So I turned if off, but now everytime I turn it back on, it starts shrieking again and it doesn't even fully load. I can only turn it on by using the Safe Mode setting. Does anybody know how to make the shrieking stop ? Help would be much appreciated ! Thanks !

PS - I've tried plugging in earphones to stop the noise, but it doesn't help.
    PS 2 - I have Windows 7.

See if this helps. If not, reduce the recording volume sliders under the "levels" tab.

Right click on the Sound Icon in your system tray
    - Select Recording Devices
    - Select your microphone from the list of Recording Devices
    - Right click and select Properties
    - Open the tab marked "Listen"
    - Uncheck "Listen to this Device"

I don't see a "levels" tab .. And when I click the "Recording Devices" tab, it says I have nothing installed. Is it because I'm in Safe Mode ?

Yes, try and do it under a normal boot.

I can't .. It won't show the starting screen. It says "Starting Windows" but then it starts shrieking and the screen stays black and I can only see my cursor.

Not being able to boot normally is definitely a problem. I am not sure what would cause that. Hopefully somebody else on this forum can offer you some help.

Are you sure it is plugged into the proper plugin?

Mic is the pink one on my machine.

I was thinking that this may be a video problem. If you hit F8 to get into safe mode, there should be a VGA mode option or "Enable low resolution video". This will keep the drivers installed but set it to a lower resolution. Will the computer boot normally using this option?

    Hi

Try this in Safe Mode, open up the Troubleshooters (click Start then type Trouble into the Start Search Box and click Troubleshooting) then click Hardware and Sound, then click the Playing Sound option and let it run, then the Recording Sound option and let it run, once run then reboot and see if your have the shreek still.

If so then please do the below
