    Hello,

I've been having a problem shutting down my PC for a few days now. It started at the same time my internet connection went screwy (see separate thread called Cannot View Any Web Pages (IE6) ). When shutting down, I get the message: End Program ccApp
Then it does the "ending program.....please wait" deal. Then I have to click the End Now button because it won't shut down. Any suggestions?

    Thanks

I'm having a similar problem with my girlfriend's pc. I haven't looked into it too much, but when I shut down, the hard disk stops, but the fans keep running OR it just hangs at that blue screen that says something like "Please wait while Windows shuts down" ... it's something along those lines.

If I reset (software) same thing happens. Only the buttons seem to work. I'll let you know if I figure it out. Though it may be a few days because she went to a wedding this weekend and won't be back until sunday.

    CCAPP is Norton related.

Seems as if its hanging when it should be ending a process or service, options re-install norton or un-install and then see if PC shuts down ok... if so re-install Norton and test again ( also check for any updates for norton )

as to generic causes of shutdown issues check this page of useful info

Thanks to both for the replies. I'm going to go ahead and ditch Norton as it seems to have caused my connection problems as well.

Cool. Thanks Halo. It looks like that XP bug mentioned in your link is probably her problem. I slipstreamed SP2, so maybe that fix either isn't in SP2 or I simply haven't gotten that update yet. I also set up the cd to auto install critical hotfixes, but not all updates. I doubt that shutdown issue is considered critical. When she gets back in town I'll give it a go. Saves me time versus having to try to figure it out myself.

Hipster if your going to un-install Norton make sure all of its gone... it can be a bugger and leave some leftovers, this link may help you remove all of it if Add/Remove doesnt http://service1.symantec.com/SUPPORT/nav.nsf/docid/2001092114452606

also I would advise running a registry cleaner to further check for any left over keys in the registry...

As you are removing Norton have you replacements for what Norton did, ie. AV, Firewall and Antispyware etc? if not you know Majorgeeks has many Free applications that can do the job well of protecting you ;)

    Hi Halo,

When I go to the Add/Remove Programs, it looks there's four programs that are Norton related: LiveReg(Symantec), LiveUpdate2.6, Norton Internet Security, and Norton WMI Update. All of this stuff was preloaded by Dell, and when I try to remove NIS it says I can't because I need admin access or some BS. I guess I'll call Dell about that, but what about the other 3 programs? I have not tried to uninstall any of them yet...

yes if you are not going to use Norton any more then remove all of them, just as a further reminder make sure you have other products read to install right away in their place before you get back on the net.

are you logged in as Admin?

you could use this un-installer from Symantec for removing NIS when add/remove doesnt work RnisUPG.exe

I was able to log in as Admin finally. So I deleted NIS and problem solved! Thanks for your help
