For some time now whenever I shut my PC down I get 2 pop up windows that say either "ccApp" or CCAPP.EXE" and "NSCSERVICE" is not responding. I then have to click end task to close these so my PC shuts down.

I have Windows XP SP2, IE7 and use Norton Internet Security. I also have Ad Aware and Spybot installed. I have run Ad Aware, Spybot & Norton Anti Virus and they are not finding anything.

I also get Norton pop ups saying it is scanning files such as "newsgroup.cab, pss.cab", etc and also what seems to be randon letters & numbers.

Are any of these a problem, if so how do I stop them. I am a complete novice when it comes to 'tinkering' with the PC so slow and simple answers please.

    Thanks for your time.

See if this doesn't help, let me know. You need to reboot after merging this to.

Copy the contents of the below Quote Box to Notepad. Then click File and then Save As. Change the Save as Type to All Files. Name the file helpme.reg and then click save. (make sure you save it somewhere you can find it. Saving it to your Desktop may make that easy.) Then double-click on the helpme.reg file on your desktop (or locate it with Windows Explorer and double click on it if not saved to the Desktop) and when it prompts to Add in to the registry, say yes.

    Hi Bjgarrick

Sorry it's taken me so long to reply but what with Christmas, etc I never got round to trying your solution.

I have now tried it and the first time I shutdown/rebooted, I got another warnig message. I rebooted again and shut down again and now it seems to be OK.

    Thanks for your help.

I have recently upgraded to NIS2007 and the strange pop up scans seem to have stopped. I uninstalled NIS2006 first and it seems OK now.
I did have a problem with NIS2007 when shutting down.

After the PC had gone through the Logging Off, Saving settings, Windows is Shutting down, I got the error message

    ccsvchst.exe application error.
Instruction at 0x00000000 reference memory at 0x00000000 could not be read / written.

Your solution seems to have stopped that as well.

Hopefully all is OK, thanks again for your help

Norton itself is a problem IMO but that's me, LOL!

    Glad things seem better!
