Shutting down XP Pro

I can shut it down manually just fine.
When I use AVG, ticking the "shutdown after sweep" option gives me the old-school-style "it is safe to shut your computer off now" message and I have to manually power off.
Also, the power schemes don't seem to work; even after 1 hour computer is still on when set to 45 minute shutdown.
    Thanks.

That's a software problem. I see the same "it is safe to shut down your computer now" after doing a scan with VIPRE on a 2K computer. It is the only time I ever see this screen. Ordinarily, my computer powers down completely. So you will need to contact AVG about this. If it is the free program, you will either have to live with it or do a manual scan and shut down the computer yourself.
