I would change it to match the other 2 stdoles that are there. If they are all lowersase, make this one lowercase also, but be sure to spell it exact.

Right. The other two are lowercase, however they don't have extensions. They're just named 'stdole2' and 'stdole32', no .tlb there.

  3. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

Go ahead and add the extension. You probably have the "Hide known extensions" checked. (Where that exact spot is I'm not sure at the moment) I think once you change the extension and then get out of renaming mode the extension will hide itself, once you refresh.

OK yeah, I entered .tlb and it disappears once you press enter. So now they're all there.

    Next step?

Try installing your audio driver now..... and knock on wood, cross your fingers, and any other good luck stuff. LOL

Install it again? But I've already done that.

Opps, let me look back and see where we are.

In post # 36, you said the driver install was hanging up and I don't see where you said it got installed after that. That's why I had you add the new file (to stop the hang-up) and clean with CCleaner.
Is Sigmatel showing in Add / Remove again? Or in Device Manager?
If it is in Device Manager, what does the properties say now?

Alright, I'll sum up the situation at the moment.

The RegSeeker seemed to have fixed the issue of the installation hanging up, it worked fine and the drivers even installed. They now show up in both Add/Remove and Device Manager, and there are no issues showing up.

However there is still no sound coming out of my speakers even though in the Volume Control the tabs are at pretty high levels and nothing is muted. What could the reason for that be?

The drivers are fine now, they're all installed properly as far as I can tell. It's just that no sound is coming out of the speakers.

OK this might help a little. I played a few songs to check again, and during the really loud sections I can hear a very light, fuzzy but audible version of the song. However it's nowhere near normal sound level.

OK musksnipe, I'm leaving now, if you can look into that fuzzy sound problem please do, because it's really bugging me that we've come this close and can't get the fix. Thanks for your help again in getting this far. Hope for something tomorrow.

    Good night.

    Ok, that is some improvement.
First, double click the volume control. Are all the volumes set and not muted?
Now, click Options>Properties. Is Sigmatel chosen for Mixer device?
Next click Advanced, Digital should not be checked.

    Goto Control Panel>Sound and Audio:
In the Volume tab, click Advanced. Choose your speaker setup. Then click the Performance tab. (Still in Volume) Where is Hardware acceleration set? If it is full, back it down a little.

Now in the Audio tab. Is Sigmatel choosen?

Now in the Hardware tab. Does Sigmatel show in Manufacturer? Is "Use this device (enabled)" showing at the bottom? Under Properties, click the plus sign in front of Audio devices, is Sigmatel there? If it is, higlight it and click Properties. Make sure "Use audio features of this device" is marked. Repeat that in the Mixer entry.

Also is there a Sigmatel icon in the Control panel? Check your settings in there if there is.

  14. aazim007

    aazim007 Private E-2

Yes, there is a SigmaTel icon in the Control Panel, but the only settings it shows are Power Management and Enable Digital Output which is NOT ticked.

Now here are your questions, and I'll add the relevant answers:

First, double click the volume control. Are all the volumes set and not muted?Yes they are and nothing's muted.
Now, click Options>Properties. Is Sigmatel chosen for Mixer device? Yes.
Next click Advanced, Digital should not be checked. I don't get you there. Advanced where? There's no Digital option as far as I can see.

    Goto Control Panel>Sound and Audio:
In the Volume tab, click Advanced. Choose your speaker setup. Then click the Performance tab. (Still in Volume) Where is Hardware acceleration set? If it is full, back it down a little.
Yes it was full, did back it down.

Now in the Audio tab. Is Sigmatel choosen? Yup.

Yes SigmaTel shows in Manufacturer, it's enabled, SigmaTel is in both Audio and Mixer devices.

So just one confusion there, sound still is fuzzy and not really audible.

One more thing, there's also quite a bit of umm interference (if you can call it that), like crackling and stuff which occurs sometimes but when that doesn't happen you can just about hear the sound. When it does make the crackling sound though it gets really hard to hear the songs.

    musksnipe Guest

Double click the volume control. It should be bottom, left of the Master Volume.

Goto Start>Run, type dxdiag Press Enter.
Under the DirectX tab, does the Notes at the bottom say, "No Problems"? Test your sound here also.

Next the Sound 1 tab, "No Problems" in Notes?

Next the Music tab, in the Test using this port section. Highlight each entry, test the sound. Does one entry play your sound clearly? Is it disabled? If it is enable it.
    "All tests sucessful" in notes?

In the More Help tab, Troubleshooters are here, but I have never solved a problem using one, but who knows could be a first time. Also, check the Override here, make sure it is Default.

And last, I saw something about fixing crackling sound but I have to find it again. (Should have read it when I saw it) :banghead

Alright, I've been through the Diagnostic route before so I kinda knew what to expect.

There are no problems found by the Diag itself although again I can't hear the sound when I do the DirectSound Test. I'm sure it must be playing but it's too faint to hear.

Same with the Music tab, nothing worked as such, I just can't hear any sound from any device. Another thing, you were talking about enabling and disabling the devices, but that part is greyed out so there's no question of disabling.

I'm not bothering with the Troubleshooter, it's really the most pathetic excuse for a problem-solver I've seen.

And yeah please do read up on the crackling bit, it's just so irritating. Along with the almost complete absence of sound.

And yeah I STILL can't see the Digital option in the Advanced tab of Volume Control. There's something about SPDIF or something along those lines, but nothing Digital. Unless that's what SPDIF means.

One other thing recheck that the speakers are in the right jack. You can get cross-talk through the jacks to make you think it's a different problem .(I know, it's a n00b mistake but it can happen)

The only other option I see is trying to update the driver in Device Manager or reinstalling it again. :banghead

  20. aazim007

    aazim007 Private E-2

Yes they're in the correct jacks musksnipe :p I'm not THAT amateurish.

Well if the only option left is re-installation, what do I do? Agghhh this sucks so bad, I can literally HEAR the song, it's right THERE but it's not right ugh!

  21. musksnipe

Well, before going the install route again, check all your options in your media player. (WMP?)
Make sure all the files are associated properly with the player and settings seem right. Not much help with WMP because I don't use it, but I google good. LOL
Also, we can try a Codec install just to be sure that isn't the problem.
I like this one: ( solved a problem I had when others didn't)
    http://www.majorgeeks.com/Codec_d5118.html
But this is much more popular and more reccomended here:

  22. aazim007

    aazim007 Private E-2

    Yes it's WMP.

And which codec do you want me to install? First or second?

  23. aazim007

    aazim007 Private E-2

OK musksnipe, I gotta go now. Will d/l the codec tomorrow, tell me which one to do though.

    Good night.

  24. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

Either will be good, try the second. Don't worry about the tools that download with it. The codecs will install and the codec tools are for tweaking them, but defaults work good as is.

  25. aazim007

    aazim007 Private E-2

OK I installed the second codec, but there's no difference. Should I try the first or will there be no difference? Any other options?

  26. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

I've been all over the internet trying to find an answer for you. It all comes back to update your driver, codecs or media player.
All we can try is a different driver. One that we couldn't get to install before. Uninstall the one you have now. First try Add / Remove, if that doesn't work, use the Revo uninstaller. Run CCleaner Registry section, and try installing this one again.

It's possible that you have a bad audio chip and the only real solution is an add-on card.

  27. aazim007

    aazim007 Private E-2

Nah, that driver gives me the Device Object not present error, it won't work.

Dammit I guess it is something with the sound card/chip, I was so wishing it was something that could be fixed with the proper software.

    Anyway, that it then?

  28. musksnipe

    musksnipe Guest

One last thing I can think of would be to open your case and make sure all your sound connections seem to be tight.
Sorry wasn't able to solve this for you.

  29. aazim007

    aazim007 Private E-2

No problem man, I would have been very surprised if you would have :p. I had suspicions of this being a hardware problem, in which case I guess I'll have to take it to a proper shop.

Anyway, thanks for the progress though, atleast we got some sound out of it. Appreciate your effort.

Hahaha musksnipe I'm sorry this whole saga just doesn't seem to be ending but something else just popped up.

I was just surfing the Net and noticed a new icon in the System Tray, it's named 'AC3Filter Configuration' and it has loads of bars and settings and stuff. Now I don't know whether that's important or not, but just wanted to ask what it's all about and IF (although I doubt it) it can do anything to help our little problem.

I think you should have gotten that with the codec download, look in your start menu in the codecs list.
Or in your Control Panel to see if you did.
Mine looks like this but have never played with it.
