    Hi,

Whenever I'm at MajorGeeks, I have to sign in about 15 to 20 times a day. If I write a post that takes me longer than 15 minutes because I was looking for some information on the net prior to finishing the post, when I click it to submit the post, I have to sign back in. I also have to sign in when I want to open an attachment. I check the "Remember Me" box when I sign in but it doesn't help.

Is there a way to keep me signed into MajorGeeks when I haven't left.

An idea is to compose your reply in Word, or a text processor like Notepad (probably better as less formatting than Word) and then copy and paste into your MG reply after you have finished your researching.

As for why MG doesn't remember "Remember me" ticked box, maybe the moderators can help here. Bazza

Phew, just been reading your thread on your new computer, Damian.:eek

Anyway sign-in here is controlled by cookies and perhaps there is something clearing your cookies, e.g., when you close a browser window. Which browser are you using?

If Internet Explorer, make sure things like "Empty Temporary Internet Files folder when browser is Closed" is not checked on under Advanced/Security. Also check through the settings on Temporary Internet Files and History settings: Settings under General/Browsing History.

They must have changed it back because I used to be able, for a while, to stay logged in even overnight. Now I come back after an hour and I have to log back on. 15 min. is what it was before IIRC but that was just for new posts. This logging back on is new to me.confused

EDIT: I just read Maxwell's post and I haven't changed anything using FF 2

Maybe too many MG members, now greater than 80,000 with over 2000 viewing at one time, to allow "unlimited logged in".

I am usually on (once) for 2-3 hours at a time, daily, and never have to log in again using the "Remember me" box, unless I clean out all Cookies for some reason, in that same session.

    Thanks for responding everybody :)

It seems that some people can stay on for hours at a time and other people can't. I don't have any of my settings to empty cookies, history, etc. I don't even close the MajorGeeks page that I'm on but I have to log back in. I use IE7 now but I used to use IE6 up until a few months ago but I had the same problem with IE6.

When I write a post, I copy it before I click "Submit Reply." I learned that one the hard way, so if I have to log in and the post isn't there, I just paste it in a blank window.

So, you like Damien, huh Maxwell? He's very smart but has a major attitude that I could live without. But I'll fix him (literally), lol, and show him who's boss. ;)

Does anyone know who runs MajorGeeks or whose website it is?

I believe Major Attitude and Corporal Punishment though there should be a contact link somewhere also. Strangely the 15 minute thing hasn't happened in a while. Maybe just a server hiccup.

I haven't had a response to any of my posts from Major Attitude or Corporal Punishment . . . I asked out of curiosity. I wouldn't write to them about it.

I've always had a 15 or 20 minute time limit. Maybe my server does something because I know my settings are right.

I know nothing about servers, just that only this afternoon EST that I was kicked off. Maybe someone played a joke, I have no idea but it's working fine so far.

One of the moderators should be able to give you a good answer soon

Do you have any login issues with other sites ?

The only thing I find is that I sometimes have to refresh the support page
to get the latest 'shouts' from the shoutbox - no big deal

Thanks for the links, shanemail . . . I'll check them out soon.

Well, I met a TimW so I'm not sure if he's the same person. He and I have crossed paths a couple of times and he's been great. chaslang has reemed me out a few times though but if he gets my gander up, I give as good as I take. But they've also helped me out a number of times, so I have nothing bad to say about either of them. They're both really pussycats . . . meow!

I don't remember if I have any log-in issues with any other site because I'm either here or at Microsoft when I have a problems with Windows or updates. With the Microsoft forums, I don't have to log in every so often, just if I close the browser.

Those problems are almost 100% of the time a cookie issue. Either your IE is not set to accept cookies, or you have a firewall/security software blocking them. Our server itself, does not log people out for time limits.

A common miss with IE 7 is this:
Go to Tools --> Internet Options -- Privacy.
Make sure it is set to medium and not medium-high.

Thanks CP . . . I just changed it to Medium. Maybe it'll help with another problem I'm having also. :highfive

I once had the exact same issue on another vBulletin board. It would not remember me signing in, and I would generally have to type in login and password 15 times when posting a reply. I don't know if these are the appropriate steps for you to take, but it might be worth a shot! :)

One thing the mods told me to do, which I thought was very odd, was to clear all the cookies. I don't know why this worked, but on my home comp it did.

I have also had this problem when accessing forums from internet cafés around the world. This time, a friendly mod suggested that I use the php link to sign in. Instead of going to www.majorgeeks.com, try signing in at http://forums.majorgeeks.com/index.php

Again, this might not help, but it is worth a shot! :)

Thanks Solange. I appreciate your advice :)

Last night, I started to be able to stay here without having to log in often. It helps alot.
