Silent Case

I have a very noisy system because of the NVidia 7900GT card I installed. It roars along and is quite a nuisance. I like the power but not the noise. I want to find a way to have the same power but a quieter case. Any ideas anyone??

 

Can you supply your system specs, including fan quantities, sizes and PSU capacity.....It may be that your current set up is going full bore in order to keep things in tow with the 7900GT!

you can always replace the stock fan on the card, those tend to be quite noisy. i think the accelero x1 fits on 7900 cards

 

My 7900GT isn't very loud at all, though I guess it depends on the manufacture. The small fan on my motherboard, however, roared! I replaced that and picked up a new case (Antec Solo) and now I can't even tell that the computer is there.

My old case was very thin aluminum and had a plastic window to see inside. Sound traveled very easily though all that. I also had cheap case fans in there and they just got louder and louder as time went on.

If your 7900GT is the culprit, you can replace the stock cooler with an after market one. Just make sure it's compatible with the card. The fan on your CPU can get loud, and vibrations from your hard drives can cause unwanted noise as well. The Antec Solo case I mentioned above has a bungie cord drive mounting system. Instead of using screws to attach the drives to the case, they are suspended in bungies. Any drive noise was eliminated!

 

Alternatively, you could use a software solution in order to slow down the fan and use RivaTuner this especially if your card runs cool with the stock solution.
