Silent Hill May Be Getting Brought Back By Bloober Team...

How much you want to bet that even if these games come out and are solid efforts from all involved, fanboy types online will still say the series is crap without Team Silent, and probably call them everything under the sun for being indie developers? Or worse yet, they will bring up Hideo Kojima as usual. A guy who only worked on a demo. But they insist that his beef with Konami is why "the franchise is dead."

That kind of stuff is definitely a big reason as to why I quit rambling about Resident Evil as much as I was some number of months back. Because their fans are pretty much the same, but a lot worse.

I mean, I did it for years as thesaunderschild. But recently, I just decided talking to nerds like that wasn't getting me anything but kind of frustrated. For you know how it is. Provide an opinion, or a fact or two, and they have nothing to say that's actually on point. It's more like corporate defending.



I kind of hate it when people say RE4 is the best one, when it's not really a genuine survival horror game. The merchant, the chickens and the villagers themselves are too generous.

 

Of course they will. Seems some fans will complain even if a game is perfect.
Fans in general complain when a game has day 1 patches saying they should’ve sorted the bugs out before launch but when it’s a game franchise they enjoy will say nothing negative but will thank the devs for sorting the bugs out quickly.

Everybody has a favourite game but the RE fans can be too devout in protecting the franchise to the point where if anyone disagrees with their views they verbally attack them.

Another game I think we should look out for, is Stray Souls. Very Silent Hill-ish. It releases on 25 October.

There just isn't enough real survival horror games in this era, or at least not triple A ones. You always get games with monsters, but the emphasis is more on shooting everything to proceed to the next stage. No puzzles. No tension. Little atmosphere. Not even much of a story.

It's kind of why I semi-hate RE4. Because RE4 was more or less the turning point for the genre. Games suddenly became shooters, as slower paced RE titles were by 2004, considered to be outdated. So, meh.

RE4 is a great game, sure, *BUT* for being a third person action game. Most RE fans say it isn't really a proper horror game, which is acceptable.

I think it promotes animal cruelty as well. Pigs, cows, fish, chickens, and dogs all feature. They all get needlessly abused by Leon.

 

It does look interesting, I’ll keep my eye on Stray Souls.

I prefer puzzles to fighting in games but usually fans prefer fighting to puzzles.

I can understand your feeling about killing animals in a game. The majority should know that they can’t do that in real life unless it is for food & certainly not cats or dogs.

I mean, he said "I hope we get another one of those someday." So I basically take that remark as him knowing stuff he wasn't allowed to admit outright.

Currently Ascension is being publicised. If Hills 2 is being released in April 24 then I wouldn’t expect to see any news before January 24.

 

Well, I will have a few games to play this month, so I will be occupied. While Silent Hill is coming back in the future, I am uncertain as to what the games will be like, as the trailers featured no gameplay.

I also have many DVDs I haven't watched yet, although I find supernatural horror films to be kind of boring sometimes. I no longer own any other kinds of films because I just wouldn't have the space to hoarde many types of movies. Although yeah. I do like action films, and martial arts.

I find being in my flat now is kind of depressing. It will soon be getting dark at 4 in the afternoon. So during that time of the year, daylight is only for around 8 hours each day, and it is very cold as well.

Of course, I feel kind of sad on Mondays because my mum used to come up at around 1:30 PM. We would get a bus to go to Sainsbury's, Asda, Lidl, or occasionally Morrisons.

I have contacted the social work department. But to be honest, I don't think they'll be in a rush to get back in touch.

 

Well, SH Ascension has been released & it is receiving very poor reviews due to the micro-transactions & the fact the site was down for some time on the day of ‘release’.
I can’t see the game lasting the full 6 months or, if it does that there’ll be any further versions.

Yes, it’s now getting rather cold & the short daylight hours are no comfort. We look forward to 21st December as this is the shortest day, after this the days will start to get longer.

During the week I would visit my Parents & Monday was shopping day for us too.

Seems to me like people can't get over Hideo Kojima's little demo for an unreleased game, Konami releasing their pachinkos in Asia, and so on...

I find it kind of sad how people never cast up Team Silent as much as they do with Kojima, after it has been some near 20 years since the PS2 era ended. Before gaining his 5 minutes of additional fame with this P.T. demo, I hadn't even heard of the guy. But I know he worked on the MGS series, and I never played any of those titles.

Yet with the RE series, I see nobody hardly ever brings up Shinji Mikami either, as much as they do with Capcom. There wouldn't be a RE franchise without his initial input, and it makes me wonder why he left Tango Gameworks - the very studio he founded after his departure from Capcom. Maybe the same thing happened with The Evil Within, a game I know is just heaps better than RE7 and 8, but which nobody likes. Mmm. I remember playing the sequel in 2017 and thinking it was amazing. RE8 comes out, I didn't like it, and everyone makes memes about the "tall vampire lady."

SH: Short Message is being mentioned on some forums so perhaps there’ll be some official news soon.
I’ve grown to enjoy Evil within after trying it on original release. It’s the same with Callisto Protocol, no-one seems to like the game due to the bugs on release & they still feel the same after the fixes. Many compare it with Dead Space which I haven’t played but by playing CP it does make me interested in trying the game at some point.

The pre-orders for SH2 remake are appearing even though there’s no release date. I will probably pre-order the physical version.

 

I really like Days Gone. Vibrant game, it is. One of the most visually stunning ever. Certainly better than anything Capcom has made recently, besides the RE4 remake (arguably). Yet few people like it.

I know there was bugs when it came out, but I think most of the problem has since been patched. But that was a really beautifully designed game, and has a devoted following. It kind of felt mature, much like The Last of Us.

So it appears Konami is recruiting devs to assist with their new "The Silent [Hill] Production Team." These games will assumably be made by themselves, basically, in a Team Silent like way. Not outsourced like the games that are coming, whenever they will come.

Yeah. I watched one episode of that shill show, but it looks too dark on my phone. Wasn't impressed. I need not worry though, because I see it as being more of a side story. The real McCoy will be arriving next year in the SH2 remake, the associated movie, and maybe the other games they have lined up. But I just think these are games like RE7, where the name sells them more than the fact they all have a loose connection to the lore. Because if the stories are not in Silent Hill, but occurring elsewhere, I don't see the need to name it SH then.

 

Yes there’s rumours of even more remakes appearing - hopefully the original SH will be remade, as well as new games.
Perhaps they’ve seen how bad Ascension is & decided to do SH in-house again.

Using the name to sell the game no doubt.

 

It felt like I was in Silent Hill last night when the snow came battering down on me. Fortunately, I never seen Pyramid Head.

 

It was foggy here last week & I felt as though I was in Silent Hill.
I see Alone in the Dark has been delayed until March.
There’s a game in development by Kojima named OD & many are suspecting it is Silent Hills due to him walking through a very similar door as was used at the start of PT.

 

Well, I recently decided to give up on Resident Evil, or at least to give up talking about it. To be honest, we're only like two of many that even gets how bad it has ended up.

For myself, I don't think it is necessarily due to stress or my age. I just grew tired of how convoluted Capcom made it with the crap they've been pulling for years by this point. I also don't find the games scary at all anymore. In fact, when it comes to being scared, Silent Hill has always been a better series for pulling that off. RE was only really scary before RE4 changed its formula. And yes, that game will in my eyes always be overrated.

The problem with RE is that it has grew into a large franchise that attempts to cater to the modern Fortnite audience. The gameplay therefore feels bland. When you shoot a gun now, it just feels so weak. The games are too dark as well. The original games had better lighting, and this is coming from me in 2023. How is a game from 1996, 1998, 2002 or whatever, superior to a game Capcom put out in 2019? I just don't get it.

All the same, I don't care much for the series now. Every game that comes out is just gonna have a different, mostly unrelated dumb storyline, likely highly nonsensical. Throw in a main character here and there for the sake of some subtle connection.

Perhaps it will be something that concerns a coven of witches boiling somebody over a silver cauldron, or how Umbrella was inspired by visiting aliens. It's already getting that way now anyway.

I reckon Silent Hill news is still far off. I think these games will turn out to be just kind of average. Because I hate to say it, but these developers aren't that big or well known, or anything.

RE moved away from the zombies & into infected in general with RE4, I wasn’t happy with that but realise Capcom needed to use something different. RE5 was terrible imo as there wasn’t any atmosphere with the horror - can things be scary when the sun is shining? Not really imo.
I still believe SH2re will be released at the same time as the film as it would make the most sense to do so.

 

Yeah. RE5 was originally gonna be a different game, with no co-op. That was really added in later on to iron out the nonsense report of it being supposedly racist. And it was also meant to have a sunstroke feature, where being in the daylight in Africa for long periods would make you become dehydrated and Chris would then begin to act odd. That sounded kind of interesting, but meh. Even the original trailer looked scarier than the final product.

I believe the SH2 remake is expected at State of Play tonight. So wow.

 

OK. The remake did appear at State of Play, but no release date was provided. They did show off the combat.

Tried Short Message but the lack of combat & puzzles combined with the live action segments (memories?) have put me off finishing it. If this is the future of SH games then I’ll pass. Of the three the live actor segments were the worst; they didn’t add anything to the story imo. I skipped them.

 

Yeah. I am concerned about the future of the series too, since these trailers were so vague, and when there's nothing to go on, it may be because they're worried about receiving backlash. I have also accepted that neither Silent Hill nor Resident Evil will be as good as they were in the past. Like, pre-2005 past.

The RE games are so stupid now. I know if I were to say this on Biohaze, GameFAQs or other forums as a whole, a lot of people will defend the current era anyway, and say I need to move on.

I also feel like I get ghosted on some sites. For example, I posted on beyond3d.com and nobody responded. I find that odd that they don't reply as the things I cover are so recent. So you would think people would reply. Then again, some gamers see survival horror as being very niche.

In fact, I had thought about completely ending my time on forums. Most of them just no longer have any activity, unless you talk about what the forum is about. Additonal subjects are a hit and a miss. Because I posted a lot on dreamindemon.com, but they are just nonsense posters that never show any respect. It's therefore a waste of time.

Same here, I love the RE films but say that on the RE forums & you’ll get nothing but abuse.
As for the ghosting on sites I’m a regular on many PC forums but 9 times out of 10 whenever I post a solution (knowing it will work) I’m ignored. When that happens I delete the reply as I’m not going to help those who ignore me (probably because I’m female).
I post my help on Reddit where my help seems appreciated more & on the Microsoft community (where I’m an independent advisor & am paid to help) but the same occurs there in that I can post a suggestion but am ignored. Another user (male) posts the same suggestion on the community side & they get the ‘thank you it worked’ reply - at least with MS I get the payment.

 

Oh, dear. I would stop posting on these forums if they act so ungrateful regarding your tips.

I see it a lot on forums today. Speak up about escorts scamming people or having a lousy attitude, and they play the dumb, 'You must be another incel' card. Like, did they not see the part where I told them they took my money and ran off with it? Nah, apparently not.

Then you have people like James from Australia, lying about being an Aussie, and who (probably) don't have a job, rarely leave the house, or whatever, saying they don't like you for X reason. But they follow you around online regardless, checking all your posts elsewhere, and even listing your user names as they are updated. That's not sounding like someone who 'hates' me. That's more like what an ex-girlfriend would do. But when you're a 30 something year old guy, that's so homo.

Don't like a person? Simple. Don't talk to that person, don't contact them for over 7 years, and don't look like a clown spamming up a few lame anxiety and relationship support forums.

I remember with some threads, I posted clear proof to indicate that Capcom was ripping off other games and films. Then their excuse on those message boards was that they were paying homage, or how they couldn't be the judge of that if they're not in the same room. Like, what the hell, timed by a thousand!?

You don't have 'to be in the same room' to know they were copying a recent popular game, especially since YouTube videos were added. At least at the time of their release dates.

It is like these people must have flunked high school, or something. Because surely somebody cannot be as dumb as that.

RE (& SH) fans cannot be reasoned with, they still believe Milla Jovovich got the part of Alice because she was married to the director - they weren’t married before the film but met because of it, but no, point that out & they attack you.

Facebook had made it hard to rejoin for a while. But I deactivated my Facebook profile ages ago. I always do things like this at the end of a year, but then if you want to look for something with the search feature, you feel forced to sign in as nothing will appear.

I was really just on it to look for extra work in films. I kind of feel like giving up with that now, as I filmed good parts for a few films that could have helped my acting ambitions, but then the parts were severely trimmed down. It just feels pointless unless an agent can obtain for you bit parts with a line or two of dialogue. Extras are just recruited via cattle calls.

I got a dirty look from the director of a film I was in when I went to a special showing. I think this Nicolette McKeown had slandered me again, or that Australian knob said something. Maybe not, though. But that has occurred before. The fact I got the ten yard stare was odd. I just notice these things. But then he acted nice.

To be honest, I don't put anything online about my acting jobs anymore. You know how it is with bogan stalkers and people with a vindictive attitude like the woman I mentioned.

 

Some people are jealous so will attack others for doing what they’d like to do but have no ambition/drive to actually try.

Possibly the director wasn’t expecting to see any of the extras at the special screening. If there were other extras there but only gave you a dirty look then it certainly is strange.

 

Due to persistent abuse from James (some serious), this will be my last 4 weeks on forums. It's not just because of him being a twit either. I noticed a rapid decline in activity with message boards years ago, and some of them are on their "last legs" now, or needlessly kept around just to be spammed up.

I have also lost interest in covering RE, because it's just not as great as it was 20 years ago. Capcom doesn't even know what's canon anymore.

Of course, things change. It's why everything from the past feels so different now. But I wish things didn't keep getting milked, ruined, and so on.

They're embarrassing the franchise by having vampires.

I’m finding that social media is getting worse every day. Facebook now regularly shows scam posts offering high cost goods for low prices m well known stores or fake news inferring that a certain person has died or has been arrested. I report them yet FB say they don’t break their rules, I’ve checked these rules & they do. These posts are promoted so have paid FB - I suspect this is why they won’t remove them.
X/Twitter is ok but the ads are getting as bad as FB. Threads seems to be the best but I have no doubt that as soon as enough users sign up that ads will begin to appear.

I only post about RE on Twitter with the hashtag #REBHFun as I receive RE.net points to do so otherwise I wouldn’t bother.

I had Covid for 4 weeks so was so ill I only wanted to rest.

There’s rumblings that an announcement is imminent on the release date.

I’ve been revisiting Alone in the Dark: A New Nightmare via PS+ & I had to get used to the controls again. I’m hoping the original’s remake does well enough for the devs to consider remaking this one.

Yeah. I really enjoyed that game after seeing it in Game in 2001. It was said that 'Edward Carnby will return...', but they went with a reboot in 2008, which was a flop.

I think there will be another E3 type event over the summer...

It makes me wonder that if RE9 was to be RE8 at what point did 8 become the end of the Winters’ saga. Was 9 originally developed to be a further continuation or would it have been a similar to 8 & ended their story if it had been released.
Supposedly 9 may be open world which sounds interesting.

 

I think development began at the same time. Maybe a trilogy was intended. I do like the idea of an open world RE game, similar to Days Gone. But I think they'll need a means of transportation.

Yeah, it's became so overdone. Claire always gets imprisoned. I think they can have the main characters be like the Scooby gang or the MCU and return forever, because in that last animated film, they were infected. Viruses are known to 'de-age' them. LOL.

Leon and Chris being in just about every mainline game has did more harm than good; I never find RE scary any more with them in the games, because they have all the best guns, cheesy one-liners, and so on. But they probably just keep using them because of how popular they are. But then they get too used to dealing with Umbrella's many goons.

Imagine if instead of Ethan, you had another camera shy lead character who has a hidden face. I think Capcom knows people did not take to this idea.

 

Yes, the ordinary person story was excellent imo. I’ve heard the story for 9 will have Chris & Leon. Rumours are certainly circulating.

 

Capcom wants to remake RE1 again. Utterly pointless...

They're bound to cut a lot of content again, and this includes not putting in every enemy or boss battle. One such enemy in the game was a large spider named Black Tiger. The other remakes didn't include the spiders, even though the original RE2 and 3 had them, as well as crows. So knowing Capcom's history, I think it will be a disappointment.

One of the reasons I don't like modern gaming very much is because a PS5 is a costly console, yet all companies seem to do is play things safe and release remakes, or remaster games we played already. But we'd like to have new games too.

I have kind of put half my foot off the boat. LOL. I have found myself losing interest in horror overall. Movies or games. They are a slog.

Some of the movies I watch are good, but there's too many boring, modern day movies that I find are a chore to watch to the end in a single viewing.

Tedious jump scares. A story that takes too long to go anywhere. Credits now play at the end, and CG. LOL. Why is that?

By the way, James from Australia has been spamming on the forum "Legal Junkies" for 2 years straight. The forum has guest replies enabled, so he just posts spam in threads I posted as far back as 2022.

I dislike many newer horror movies as they’re pure gore with no story. Give me old horror - Universal, Hammer etc - any day.

I was watching one earlier called Bug, which was not really a horror film. It's about a couple in a motel who go paranoid, thinking bugs are laying eggs inside them. The guy pulls out a tooth with pliers, then stabs a psychiatrist. Very bloody. But it was boring.
