Silverlight.

    Do I need Microsoft Silverlight? And if I do, what for?

    I have it on two netbooks, only because Netflix used to use it for streaming. The netbooks came with a free 1 month trial of Netflix so Silverlight was installed.

    I removed it from an old XP desktop because at one time, I streamed Netflix on there. My notes say I had to remove 7,147 registry items. Once those were removed then 87 more items were found (Revo Uninstaller).

    Netflix is the only thing that I've used that needed it.
    If you need it for something and it is not installed, the program will complain.

    Thanks to both.
    I asked because MajorGeeks.com Software Updates and News shows it to be outdated. I'll disable it and see what happens when I watch a video clip. I have Adobe Flash Player ActiveX installed.

    HTML5 is the future. Now that we can view youtube videos without flash we no longer utilize browsers that it is installed on. Never had a use for silverlight, but others needs are different than ours.

    I have NEVER had a site complain because silverlight was missing on our desktop computers.
