I learned a valuable lesson today that I probably should have learned 4 years ago. I took on, with my best friend, a home renovation project in the employ of a wealthy woman. The caveat was that her 21 year old son was going to be our laborer, with the intent that he would learn skills one would only learn apprenticing with journeyman mechanics. Unbeknownst to us(damned fool I am I should have known)he was a glorified apprentice 90-day-wonder who`s sole purpose at the job site was to make himself valuable to the purse-holder(MOMMY)and picked out the one person(me)that pointed out to him that the skilled mechanic(me,of two) was more valuable to the job-site than the debris-maker(him).I`ve noone to blame but myself for not realizing that what I mistook for unbridled enthusiasm was in fact unbridled skirt-clutching apple-polishing cost me a pretty good-paying gig for me and a very competent partner for my best friend. I guess the point I`m trying to make is this...if something appears too good to be true pretty good chance it is. Oh yeah...if yer a tradesman with mad skills , it`s probably a good idea not to trust a youngster with Ma`s endorsement without a union card...and one more thing...I`ll NEVER trust an apprentice without a card again, especially if his MOMMY(yeah, you Brice ,you punk)is signing the checks.

 

If the pay sucks, then drop it. But, if the connections are good, then shut yer trap (so to speak! )

I have a friend who started a similiar job, but in the middle, the wacky spinster starts changing all the designs, and that meant she ran out of money. So they look at her, and tell her the worthless sire can complete the job cheaper. They never regretted putting him on the spot and have moved on to better things.

We can trust time will heal the wounds between your friend and yourself.
