I am after a simple program that will monitor Broadband usage. I don't need fancy graphic outputs, just a simple tally counter, in megs, will do.

In other words, how many megs (of a capped quota) have I used this month to date, etc. I am mainly interested in download traffic, as my upload traffic is free. :cool

I think I am well under my quota as I have 2gigs off peak, when I am mainly on the net, but would like to know. Any suggested programs, and your experiences welcome. :major Bazza

I am trying CostAware from PCUtilities mag #86 edition, p54, but can't get it to work. It maybe me of course.

Google found this link at http://www.costaware.net/ and I have downloaded version 1.1.3. It is probably the same as what I have already but will give that a shot

    Any suggestions appreciated. Bazza

Wow! A chance to help a major geek!

Check out Bitmeter, downloadable right here at MGs. It keeps track of your total download and upload megabits on hourly, daily and monthly bases.

    Per MG:

BitMeter 2 is a bandwidth meter, it allows you to visually monitor your internet connection by displaying a scrolling graph that shows your upload and download speed over time. BitMeter is freeware - ie. it is given away completely free of charge, there is no trial period, no time-limited features, no spyware, and no adware, guaranteed.

The different colours on the graph represent your upload and download speeds, the display updates every second, and the current speeds are also displayed numerically in the lower part of the window.

    :wave

Bitmeter 2 requires version 1.1 or later of the Microsoft .NET framework to be installed.

Since I began using Bitmeter I have tallied 14.56G in downloads in June and 5.58G so far in July.

Yesterday I downloaded 548.22M and 394.56M so far today.

Between 6-7PM my download total was 6.32m and 40.09 between 7-8PM

To check your stats simply right clic the taskbar icon then Statistics.

I got because it has a tiny see through window which shows my internet traffic in real time with a graph ( I like the line better than the default bar graph). The window id small enough so that by parking it at the top of the sceen it is out of the way of everything except for something you might want to view in full screen.

Thanks f66939. LMAO. Major Geek rating only means you have over 1000 posts. Doesn't mean you knowall. :D I'll try Bitmeter as I can't get CostAware to work. Probably a clash between IE/AOL/dialup and Opera/Spin/Broadband. Life is short to try and sort out AOL clashes. :D Bazza

    Thanks again, f66939.:major

Right clicking on the display, and selecting Statistics grid, gives me exactly what I want. The average download and upload speeds are just that, averages, and not much use. But apart from that, it is what I wanted

Attached thumbnail is an example for anyone interested in keeping an eye on their usage.

    Great program. :major
I have emailled the author to see if he can add a couple of Summaries to the Statistic Grid in the next version. I have 2 quota limits from my Broadband ISP. 7am-7pm are peak times (1 gig), with 7pm to 7am as off peak (2 gig).
One extra reason why I picked this ISP as I am usually on at off-Peak times anyhow. :D

I have asked him if he can provide separate usage tallies for nominated Peak and off-Peak times in the same format as the Summary tab, in Statistics grid, so I (and others on quotas) can easily check our respective usages.
