Simple Video Editing Software For Win7

I'm trying to find something I can use to turn the huge video files copied off my smartphone into something Facebook can upload manageably. I took a just under 4 minute video clip of my daughter performing that has saved as a 325mb mp4. Trying to upoad it on my PC it wants to take about an hour, there must be a better way.

I dont have Facebook on my phone (Which I dont doubt is the default way people share things theyve filmed. I assume the file is converted into something smaller and manageable by the Facebook app.) So I guess I need some sort of editing software to compress the file to a more suitable format.

It doesnt look like Windows Movie Maker is available anymore for W7. I downloaded what I thought was WMM but it was some 'freeware' that puts a watermark on unless you pay for it. There must be some thing that's free and easy to use but I just can't see the wood for the trees. Please help.
