Since installing Bitdefender, several Spyware programs will not open

    Dear Forum,
I faithfully followed all the instructions in "Read and Run This First", except that I did not get to "Panda."

I have win98, and am using dialup, and Bit defender took forever to load. Then it took 90 minutes to install. It said it was going to restart my computer, but froze for another 35 minutes and I could not restart with commands at all and finally had to just push the on/off button to get out of it's nuttiness.

I ran a scan and it found a few things, but since I downloaded it I cannot open these programs:

    Spybot Search and Destroy
    Spyware Blaster
    CCleaner
    and AdAware

I have had those 4 programs on my computer for quite some time.

And since bitdefender, my computer is constantly making running noises---very busy ones.

Am I supposed to keep Bitdefender running? Or was it just to be used for the scan? It seems awfully hoggy to me.

Also, it said to stop the virus service or blocking (sorry, up all night and cannot think of the right word) of Spybot, but obviously I cannot open it, and I do not remember how to do it anyway.

My computer still seems slow, but with dialup and all these new programs, who knows?

    Thanks,
    Mishkyn

If your problems started at Bitdefender, uninstall it, reboot and see where your at. If your using the complete security suite, there may be a compatibility problem. If uninstalling it does not help, let the guys know and they will diagnose from there.

    Thanks, Major A.

Things have really slowed down since it has been installed and there is no other option.

Which Bitdefender are you referring too?

Do you mean just the online scanner?

Or did you install (as MA asked), the full Bitdefender Antivirus program.

Bitdefender uninstalled 4 other spyware removal programs

    Dear Forum,
I wrote earlier that I was unable to open 4 other programs after installing bitdefender.

I just tried to uninstall all of them in order to reinstall all of them and found that they had already been uninstalled. Bitdefender has to be the culprit as the other programs have been on my computer at least 7 months, and it is the only new program.

    Programs uninstalled by Bitdefender:
    CCleaner
    AdAware
    Sybot Search and Destroy
    SpywareBlaster

Also, when I tried to uninstall bitdefender using Add/remove (I have win98), what came up was the "Install" screen. I let it install once, thinking maybe the install process had not completed.

When I rebooted, and tried to uninstall again, I found the same thing.

I did a search and removed every bit of file I could find from bitdefender and am getting ready to re-install my other programs.

Any advice, any suggestions on what just happened to me? I cannot be the only one as all these programs are recommended to be installed together by you, someone else must have had this occur.

Thanks for anything you can come up with.

Re: Bitdefender uninstalled 4 other spyware removal programs

Please remain in one thread. Your other thread has a question posted for you to answer. I will merge this thread with the other.

BitDefender does not uninstall programs or break them.

    Dear Chaslang,
I installed the complete Bitdefender Standard, as I was advised to do in a post from you.

I cannot think what else could have happened since it was immediately after installing Bitdefender that the other programs failed. When I went to uninstall/reinstall, a box came up from add/remove saying they were already uninstalled.

Can't think how else that happened to 4 programs at once.

Thanks for all of your great help, this is such a wonderful site.

Which post from me are you referring to? Please provide a link.

Bitdefender will no uninstall your programs. The only thing that could make programs disappear from the registry like that is:
    1) either actually uninstall
    2) a system restore was performed to a date before the applications were ever installed.
