Last night I started getting repeated, official looking Adobe Flash update boxes. I immediately recognized that I shouldn't be getting these messages and quit each one without installing. Just to be sure though, I uninstalled Flash and still got the pop-ups.

This morning, I started the investigation. Running Windows 7 Pro, I found out that MSE was disabled as well as the Windows firewall. Found out that if I tried to run any scans, I would get the pop up advising of a shut down in one minute. MSE did report the Sirefef infections.

Anyway, I followed the READ & RUN ME FIRST as well as the Vista and Win 7 Malware Removal/Cleaning Procedure threads and ran the programs. I made one mistake though and let RoqueKiller clean the errors. Since I did that, I let Malwarebytes clean also.

I will attach the RoqueKiller log. Also attaching the FRST from before starting the above processes as well as the MG zip from after.

None of the other programs detected any problems. I re-ran RoqueKiller and then a full scan from Malwarebytes, with no problems found.

The question is, did I nip this in the bud?

Sorry, added the FRST from before I started. I will rerun it.

No, my mistake, I meant to post can you please attach the MGlogs.zip as opposed to the MGTools folder. ;) Thanks.

Yep, it didn't zip up and produced an error in the command window. Let me see if I can tell what it did with the files. Otherwise, I will rerun it.

Probably didn't zip because I was in Safe Mode.

    Here it is

Windows Firewall still won't run, nor will Windows Defender. Suspect they have been damaged.

    But the Firewall's okay?

Download this file BITS.reg to your desktop. Double click it to allow it to merge into the registry. Let me know if you receive a success message or not. If successful, reboot the machine and then let me know how things are running.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system

    Attached is fixlist.txt
    • Save fixlist.txt to your flash drive.
    • You should now have both fixlist.txt and FRST64.exe on your flash drive.

    Now re-enter System Recovery Options.
Run FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the flashdrive (Fixlog.txt).
Please attach this to your next message. (How to attach)

    Now attempt to boot normally.

    -------------------------------

Now run FRST again, no fix, just a scan and attach the log.

Yes, the Firewall is OK. Update acts like it wants to run and allows me to select updates, but when it tries to download, it gives the 80246008 error code.

    Files are attached.

Waiting on reboot to test BITS

Good, so now everything is running as it should do?

OK, run RogueKiller again for me just a scan and attach the log.

It appears to be. I also followed the guidance found here and disabled Windows Firewall and installed Comodo. I've also increased UAC to an annoying level for the time being. I also followed Black Viper's Tweaked Services recommendations.

Ran RogueKiller. The registry entries are for changes I made, except I'm not sure about the InprocServer32 entries. Also, I don't understand the MBR entries, unless Comodo is blocking.

Looking at the above, I've edited Comodo to allow RogueKiller as a trusted app, and ran the second report, which cleared up the above questions.

I noticed I don't have access to certain hidden files, such as AppData. I think that because of the resets that I did to the registry and settings during some of the cleaning processes yesterday.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

    Thanks, all done.
