Site news third party programmes and tool bars. The advice is brilliant, may I be so bold as to add something – watch out for the ADVANCED option, 9 times out of10 it will put people off, but, by choosing it you get the opportunity to uncheck the unwanted bits :wave

One of the things that can trap people, myself included, is that the default install method with the add-on stuff included
is typically labeled as (Recommended).

It seems to suggest that if you Don't do it that way, something Bad might happen and you are taking a risk by deviating.

It can scare you away from doing the right thing.

 

Another tip: If possible, opt out of automatic installation of updates on third party programs. Let the program notify you if an update is available and go through the update install process manually.

I was burned twice by HP on this where automatic software updates added an unwanted toolbar to Internet Explorer without my permission. :mad

 

And the infamous Adobe addon of Ask Toolbar. :confused
