I am having issues with sites in various browsers:
Ebay - Won't load in Netscape
Orbitz - Won't load in Netscape or IE
ESPN - Won't load in IE
All of these sites worked at one time. The screen remains blank and the site never loads. All these sites work in Firefox.

Is this an example of a hack and if so how do I correct it?

    Thanks,

    Rrogers44

First, please follow ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ ME FIRST BEFORE ASKING FOR SUPPORT: Basic Spyware, Trojan And Virus Removal

After doing ALL of the above if you still have a problem:

    http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Download HijackThis 1.99.1

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the ZIP file as your backups will not be safely stored.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gifBefore running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gifRun HijackThis and save your log file.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/images/grenade.gif Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next post. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post as it will be removed).

Thanks for your feedback. Prior to my first post, I had done all previous steps in the tutorial (sorry I forgot to mention that). I also disabled Microsoft Java.

Attached, please find my log file.

    Thanks for your help,

You have not ran all of the online scans in the READ ME.

Please run these online scans and post results as in what was detect and removed.

    TrendMicro Online Scan
    Bitdefender online scan
RavAntivirus online scan <-- select Auto Clean then click Scan My PC
    TrojanScan online scan

After doing these online scans reboot and post a fresh HJT log.

Sorry, previous I was not able to get Trend Micro to run (plus PCillin is my av anyway) and I thought the others were optional.

Anyway, I have now run them, rebooted and posted another log. Only one of the programs found an issue (bitdefender), the log is attachment #2, but it is hard to read, the html will not upload.

    Thanks,

    Are you familiar with Pcssafe\TracksEraser?

Please look in Add or Remove Programs for the following and Uninstall them if found:

    Viewpoint

Please print out these instructions so that you can operate with All Browser Windows CLOSED.

Please make sure System Restore is OFF and the Viewing of Hidden Files & Folders is Enabled as per the tutorial.

Now, look in Task Manager (Ctrl-Alt-Del) for the following running processes and, if you see it, try to END it:

    ViewMgr.exe

Now scan with HijackThis and Check the Boxes for the following:

Make sure All Browser Windows are Closed when you Click FIX.

    R0 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://hsremove.com/done.htm
    R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://hsremove.com/done.htm

    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} -%windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)
    O9 - Extra 'Tools' menuitem: Uninstall BitDefender Online Scanner v8 - {85d1f590-48f4-11d9-9669-0800200c9a66} - %windir%\bdoscandel.exe (file missing)
    O9 - Extra button: (no name) - {CD67F990-D8E9-11d2-98FE-00C0F0318AFE} - (no file)

Again, make sure All Browser Windows are Closed when you Click FIX.

    NEXT:
Run CCleaner and Spybot S&D and have Spybot fix what it finds.
Note: Dont forget to update Spybot S&D by selecting "Search For Updates"

Then, as an added precaution, Go to Start > Run and type: cleanmgr and then click OK. Make sure the boxes for these are checked:
    Temporary Files
    Temporary Internet Files
    Recycle Bin

    And Click OK.

Reboot, Scan with HijackThis and attach the new log.
Let me know of any problems you may have encountered with the above instructions and also let me know how things are running now.

    Good Luck!:)

Yes, I am familiar with TracksEraser, it essentially does many of the cleaning functions prescribed in your tutorials.

Did the steps you prescribed remove the trojan that could not be deleted that was detected by bitdefender?

I was able to remove Viewpoint from programs, and it was not running in task manager. I removed all of the items in the Hijack This report except the 04 associated with Viewpoint, I could not find it.

Spybot found "SpyHunter" and removed it.

    I ran cleanmgr

    New log is attached.

I still have the original issue for the most part:
ESPN.com will now load in IE
Ebay.com will still not load in NS
Orbitz will not load in either NS or IE
    All sites work in Mozilla

I'm beginning to think the issue is unrelated to spyware or virus.

    Thanks for all your help,

    Rrogers44

Your HJT log is clean, if you still have the problem as your mentioned I would post that in the Software Forum as it doesnt appear to be Malware related.

    Good Luck!:)
