I am having issues with sites in various browsers:

Ebay - Won't load in Netscape

Orbitz - Won't load in Netscape or IE

These sites worked at one time. The screen remains blank and the site never loads. All these sites work in Firefox.

I have confirmed through the spyware board that it is not hack or virus related.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Do other sites work okay?

Do you have some sort of blocking software like SpywareGuard or TeaTimer etc that is blocking them?

Try killing any unnecessary programs in the background (msconfig), or use Safe Mode with Networking and try to connect to them.

All other sites that I know of work fine, including other travel sites. I did not see any strange programs running in the background and no msconfig.

As far as I know I don't have any programs blocking them, but I do use PCillin, SpyBot, and SpyBlaster.

I booted in Safe w/ Networking and both sites worked. I then booted in Normal and they still worked. When I clean internet history including cookies, they stopped working again. Seems like it might be a cookie setting or something of that nature. I have Netscape set to Default Cookie Permission and IE set to Medium.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

What operating system are you using and exactly what security software do you have?

It has nothing to do with history or cookies, especially considering that you say you cleared them and it stopped working.

Something running in the background that is set to load with Windows is preventing them from loading.

Do you have a firewall or not?

Try killing each application one by one using Task Manager until you find the culprit.

I do not have a software firewall, only a router. Is there a firewall in Netscape or IE that I need to turn off?

There are only 2 "applications" running in task mgr, neither one of these fixes the problem.

Now, there are many "processes" running in task mgr, I shut down all the ones under my user name, with no effect. The ones under SYSTEM cause problems when I shut them or don't allow me to shut them. There are some under LOCAL SERVICE and some under NETWORK SERVICE.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Try the steps below:

    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type regsvr32 jscript.dll, and then click OK.
    3. Click OK.
    4. Click Start, and then click Run.
    5. In the Open box, type regsvr32 vbscript.dll, and then click OK.
    6. Click OK.

    See if that does it.

Thanks for the recommendation. I ran both operations, but the sites still won't load.

An interesting side note: The logo for the site does appear in the URL line, but the site data never loads.

    Thanks

Both these sites are trade sites.
They might use secure http ssl service, make sure the service is running.
    If windows xp
control panel>administrative tools>services>right click http ssl and properties>ensure it is set to automatic.

I checked this service and it was off and set to manual. I switched them to on and automatic, but still no luck.

    Thanks,

As I stated previously, something is blocking these sites. Lets go back to the beginning.

Ebay won't load in Netscape and Orbitz won't load in Netscape or IE, yet they both load fine in Safe Mode with Networking, with only loads basic drivers and no programs.

This means that a program or application that is loading with Windows is blocking them, either a firewall, security or ad-blocking program.

As far as which one I can't tell you without having the PC infront of me, but as it's only a couple of sites and in different browsers it tells me it's not a problem unique to a particular one.

Try going through msconfig (Start, Run and type it in) if you have it and see what is loading at startup. (in the Startup tab) What operating system are you using?

Or, download a copy of Process Explorer and post a screenshot of background programs here.

It definetly looks like a cookie problem.
Since your browser setting is not the thing,it may be one of your program.
Try disabling spyware blaster and spybot S&D from startup and check if that changes anything.

    run>msconfig>startup
