My computer has been at its height of unhappy these last few days. I started noticing problems when my sound went out. Then World of Warcraft wouldn't initialize properly (Zero error). Then dlls weren't being recognized as valid windows items. Then my soundcard wasn't installed properly all of a sudden.

So, as I pretty much use my computer for WoW and email, I uninstalled WoW and tried to reinstall it. I got a cyclical redundancy error. When I talked to their tech support the guy said that error was indicative of bad ram, so I got new ram. I also downloaded replacements for the dlls that were generating popups. I downloaded AVG and Kaspersky, ran scans and removed trojans.

The new ram cleared up a lot of the errors, but also brought some others to light. I'm unable to access the device manager through opening system on the start menu or by right clicking my computer and going to properties (nothing happens when I do).

After all this, I decided to reformat. The only thing that was really holding me back was my ITunes library, (some of the CDs have since been stolen) but at this point I just wanted to have my computer back and functional.

I tired to put in the XP Windows Professional disc and install from a CD rom drive while in windows. This generated an error that said that the version of windows I was running was newer than the one on the CD blahblahblah. But it gave me no option to run the installation anyway.

So I restarted my computer, went to the BIOs options and set the CD drives above the hard drive in terms of boot priority. I tried resetting with the Windows CD in each of the drives, but this did nothing.

So I don't really know what to do. . .it appears I can't reformat. . .I was going to try and extract my ITunes library onto a portable hard drive (which has a firewire port) but the only connection I can hook it up to is my soundcard. . .which is not functional.

So if anyone has any suggestions. . .for saving my ITunes lib and helping me out of computer (aka- WoWless) purgatory, I would love you long time.

I enclosed an attachment with hijackthis's report if it helps, I'm kinda out of ideas. =/

    thanks!

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

Make sure you pay CLOSE attention to step 3 in the below READ & RUN ME. You are violating this guideline by having three antivirus applications installed (AVG, KAV, & Symantec).

You also have HijackThis installed exactly where we specify not to install it.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!
