Size of Hiren's Boot CD

I'd like to how big Hiren's boot CD is, i.e. how much space it takes up on an optical disk after burning the iso (which is some 610 MB about). I am asking to see if I need just a CD or whether I need a 4.7GB DVD.
    (I have v 15.2)

I tried using the W7 burner, and I just got a copy of the iso . I removed desktop.ini from the burn list. It had been put there automatically and I didn't think it was necessary.

I think I need it to backup some files and to copy onto the HDD a couple of system files (which are a backup which I hope I can find) which will allow me to boot from said HDD. I turned off the NIC and rebooted and I got this message about contacting Microsoft about reactivating my OS (it is Win XP), and it wouldn't let proceed further - something about WPA - and MS help won't speak to me I assume because it's WinXP...see this article

    Hi Eldon
Thanks for your quick response. I am now more confused than ever.

You say "If you just burn the ISO to a disc"....but this is precisely the procedure outlined on Hiren's page. You just burn (not copy) the iso file to disk, and you have an HBCD. This is what I did, using the windows 7 burner contained within windows 7 to burn Hirens.BootCD.15.2.iso to a 702MB CD. No extraction process on the iso is described, nor was performed (I extracted the iso file from the zip download though). I now have, as I stated a copy of the iso file on a CD; it does not seem to have been "burnt". I followed the procedure described on Hiren's webpage, just ust using a different burner (as I understand it).

Please, please correct me if I am wrong but thought extracting the files in the iso archive was the the difference between 'burning' the iso file and simply copying it.

If you are saying the Windows 7 CD burner cannot do this job, please say so.

Before I waste another n CDs doing this, I'd like to be confident of achieving the result I want. I asked what size the burnt files were in order to be certain they would fit onto a 702MB CD, while the compressed iso archive was 610MB. When I understand what I did wrong, I will certainly use CDBurnerXP

You are not wrong. Use the program I suggested and select Burn ISO to Disc.

Don't use the Windows 7 CD/DVD burner. It will only burn the file (ISO, etc.) to disc.

Incorrect Eldon. It burns the ISO exactly as XPBurnerCD does. You right click the ISO file and select Burn to disc

    Thanks Earthling.
    I know Windows 7 :-o , but...
I continue to use Nero Express 7.5 that just does everything I need.

    Hi guys,

When I r-click on the iso I get the menu box with one of the choices being 'Windows Disc Image Burner'. I assume this what Earthling means.

However, I did not do this. On my copy of Windows (File) Explorer, at the top of my screen (well maybe it is second line down), there is horizontal 'menu' containing 5 or 6 choices, such as Organise, Power2Go...and lastly 'Burn'. I chose this (of course). Is this the same thing ? It looked like it, but when I followed the procedure (after deleting desktop.ini from 'Files to be burnt to Disc' leaving only the iso) I got a copy the iso file on the CD. This was not what I was expecting - or should I have expected this, I didn't try booting from it ? Should I have kept desktop.ini ? I have no idea what this does.

You must use Burn disc image, not Burn. HBCD will then be bootable from CD or DVD. Burn I believe just copies the iso file to your CD which isn't what you want.

    Dumb_Question,
This is exactly why I suggested CDBurnerXP. Look at the second image in the link I posted - highlighted in blue, Burn ISO image, is the option you need to select.
Ignore desktop.ini - it's only there because you have selected to show hidden files and folders.

For simply burning ISOs nobody needs XPBurnerCD or any other 3rd party burner any more.
