Skype Question

    I don't use this but I am finding on more and more computers that I clean up/disinfect.

    Part of my routine is eliminating most of the autoruns, what a huge difference that makes!

    If Skype is taken out of the autoruns, will the person not be able to tell if they are being called through Skype? I hope that makes sense as I have zero idea as to how Skype works, how calls are made or received. But I'm certain there are users here. :wave:wave:wave

    If stopped from loading/starting up at boot, no the person will not get the call on their PC. They will reflect as off line. Pretty much as MSN Live Messenger. Max the caller can do is leave a text message.

    Not necessarily. It depends on their usage. I have it installed, but stopped it from starting up because the only use I have for it is when I'm out of the country and wanting extremely cheap rates to call home. Otherwise, it stays off.


    By default it installs to start up when your computer starts. Most people don't know that and have it running in the background when they really don't use it for full time use.

    I'd just tell them it's running. Let them know that it slows things down while running in the background and give them the option to have it not start up automatically. You may find a lot of people opt for that.

    Thanks Laura. As it so happens, the computer I was working on has Skype and I did, suspecting this was the case, ask the owner if the calls were prearranged and was told they just place and receive calls to their son in Japan at any time, so I left it running, I hope.
