Sleeping on the job

JimLL I can't follow the rules

I run my XP Pro laptop on AC - always.

In the power options I have it set to "Never" on ALL AC options.

Yet it goes to sleep every now and then (a romantic crescent moon gracing the panel edge) when I get busy and don't use the machine. The only way I seem to be able to bring it up again is by pressing the power key - whereupon a window pops up immediately saying "Preparing for standby mode," or something very close to that. I've never got it running from that point.

    Any clues what's going on?
