Hi Everyone. I was just about to pull the trigger on a second eVGA 7800 GTX KO ACS3. Thats when I heard about all the hype of DirectX 10 and Vista. So My question is: Should I drop $550 on the new videocard or wait for a DirectX 10 compliant videocard. Will one DX10 card be more powerful than 2 DX9 in SLi. As always Thanks for your Help! Thanks Prankz.....Ok Let me bounce this off of you....I have an older XFX 6600GT 128 bit 128MB DDR3 PCI-E. Would there any benefit to put that in an SLI mode w/ my eVGA 7800 GTX KO ACS3 256 Bit 256 MB DDR3 PCI-E. Note That I have 24" Dell 2405 LCD Monitor running 1920x1200 res.

hmm, in my personal opinion i think you may run into problems running a 6600GT alongside a 7800GTX. remember the two are very different. tradtionally to run SLI, you need to have the same cards.

Same models, different or same brand is ok. I have MSI & PNY 7900GT SLI stock. Run great.

8800 is coming out mid nov. Wait a week or 2. 8800 is DX10 compliant.

The DX10 cards are here, and the 8800GTX is pure pwnage (about twice the power of a 7900GTX). If you're willing to spend $600, go for it! I wouldn't recommend getting another DX9 card since it'll get outdated (though not that much less powerful) a bit quicker, plus you'll be able to get all the eye candy with DX10 games and Vista.
Of course, maybe you'll want to wait for the prices to go down.

Very true. I read about 300W for one GTX.

The GPUs have to match in order to allow SLI to work. The configurations may differ, as in memory size and speed, because nVidia supplies a program called Coolbits that will match your SLI cards to the slowest speed card, with the smallest block of memory. So the rule of thumb: match 6600s with 6600s and 7800s with 7800s. :)
