I had a thread going a few days back where I wondered if I should go SLI which required a new motherboard, or if I should get a single higher end card (if you care, here's the thread http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=187096 ) -- well, I realized I have a bit more money than I thought, so I'm thinking I'll get the high end card (a GTX260) and an SLI compatible motherboard, and I'll add a 2nd GTX260 in the future. However, it seems many boards support SLI at 8x/8x. But a single card would run at 16x. Can anyone shed some light on this? Will 8x/8x be pointless for SLI? I've also seen some boards where the 1st card runs at 16x, and the 2nd is 8x. What's up with that?

Any info, links, or whatever will be appreciated.

I'm not really a hardcore gamer, but when I'm gaming, I want the game to run perfectly at fairly high settings. Thanks for the links! Good stuff! They both do a good job of answering my questions....
