SLi two different cards

hey,..im wondering if i can SLi 2 cards i have at themoment,....

im using and Nvidia Geforce 9600Gt and im wondering if i can Sli and a second card but its a 7900GS

if read a couple of threads and peeps have said no and maybe,...but can some 1 give me a definate answer,...

well, yes and no.

SO it looks like it might work, but so long as both your cards have the same amount of memory. If they don't, either you will have to roll back your drivers (to before 100.xx) or forget about it.

EDIT: whoop, looks like it wont work cause the 7900GS has 256MB and the 9600GT has 512MB.

 

Yeah, this is of no help, and Speculant answered everything perfectly, but a 2nd 9600GT would be under $100 and would give you a healthy boost when SLI'd with another 9600GT. Here's a link to all the 512mb 9600GTs currently available at NewEgg:

I'd try to get an exact match to the current card if possible. If not, try to get one with the same clock speeds or faster. In SLI, both cards run at the speed of the card with the slower clocks, so you'd want an equal or faster card, NOT a slower one 'cuz it would slow down the current 9600GT.

Let us know what you end up doing, and if you do SLI a pair of 9600's, as a former owner and huge fan of the 9600, I'd be interested to see some benches before the SLI and after!
