Slipstream XP

Discussion in 'Software' started by HighPlainsCowboy, Dec 2, 2005.

  1. Hello Everyone ;)

I have a question about Slipstreaming. I have windows XP pro with Service Pack 2 already on it. I want to create a slipstream so that I don't have to enter the key everytime I wipe my system. I know there is a way to do it and I know I need like 2 or 3 files off my drive so that it won't ask me for the keycode. Does anyone know which files these are?? Also has anyone determined the best way to slipstream. I know Elder Geek has a method and so do a couple other places. I'm just looking for other opinions.

    Thanks
    :D

    nLite http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4324.html
I used this to make an unattended installation CD with service packs and drivers slipstreamed for both of my computers. If you want, you can even remove Windows components you don't want (that I haven't tried).

I too am a happy user of nLite.

I have never had any problem using nite, but be aware some folks have had problems, most of those problems were when removing components

    Hi
I have SlipStream of XP Pro Sp2 ready for burning...is it possible to do this with Sonic RecordNow! Deluxe or Nero Express/Smartstart as I don't see a "No Emulation" option on either of them

You don't need it. There is no copy protection on the XP CD. The activation process you go through is MS' antipiracy measure.

    Ok thanks

I just burnt a copy but when i try to boot it at start up it says "Cannot load from CD:Code 4

I followed the instructions from the theeldergeek website...(coped xp cd to c, extracted the sp2...updated the i386 folder....made a bootable image using ISOBuster. there has to be a setting in record now that i'm missing...changed the cd recoding options to:
Type: Disc at once (DAO) closed
    Mode: Mode 1
File system: ISO level 2 (212 character file names)

Autostreamer will slipstream your XP disc without all the work of editing it yourself or nLite if you would prefer a customized unattended installation disc. Both will produce a bootable iso which you can burn to disc or tes in a VM. Both programs are way easier than doing it manually

Can this be done with a disc that comes with a computer system that's not solely XP? Mine is a Toshiba cd thats comes with XP and all the pre-loaded software that comes on a computer.

If your cd is a recovery cd then I don't believe you can
