Brand new Dell PC. [I made the mistake when I first got the PC of getting online to update software, etc. before loading firewall, etc. -- duh...] Huge delay in typing - screen basically freezes. Neither processor nor hard drive appear to be taxed. Get message when I shut down re. "CL RC Engine 3 Dummy Winidow". Ran HijackThis but didn't get lines similar to others posted on this site (have attached my log file). Someone suggested running "VundoFix", which I did but it nothing found. Suggestions??

    Hi mjim!
    Welcome to Major Geeks!

I believe this is a software problem. I think that the error message (including the wrong spelling of winidows) you're getting may be from C:\Program Files\Dell\MediaDirect\PCMService.exe

See if this program is in the Task Manager and try turning it off before you shut down your computer. Then see if it still gives you the same error message. To test it after you boot up again, go to Start / Run and type in MSConfig. Go to the Start tab and uncheck this service and see if your computer will run after that without getting the same message. If this is the case, then the 04 startup entry can be removed using HijackThis so you will be able to return your MSConfig to run in normal mode rather than in the diagnostic selective mode.

    Let me know.

A thousand "thank you's". That was my problem. One "issue" though. I didn't see a reference to PCMService.exe anywhere in the HiJackThis log file. I turned-off PCMService.exe in MSConfig then blocked it being turned back on using a registry change notification software. MsConfig is in "normal" mode. A few quick questions: Did you see it in my log file (did I miss it)? What problems might I create by stopping the program from loading using the method that I used?

    Thanks again.

    mjim,
It's one of the 04 items in HJT, which means it's a startup item. You can find it in the log you posted or you could run hijackthis again to see if it's still appearing. The main thing is that the way you fixed it is working for now.
I've asked someone else to respond about whether that is a good solution or not. It's ... very busy in here right now, so thanks for being patient on that one. If your computer is doing better, then your solution is working. It would be nice though to give you a better answer than that.
