As I explained in this thread, I've been having problems reinstalling Windows.

I've tried everything and can't do a system restore so this seems to be my last resort. There's also a HJT log if that helps anyone.

    Thanks a lot :D

There are a few malware items in your log but none of these would present any problems with trying to do a reinstall of Windows. We can fix your malware problems and then you can see what happens but why are you trying to reinstall to begin with.

You should also look at the below links which may relate to you install problems:

    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=315335&sd=RMVP

    http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=330181&sd=RMVP

If you decide you want to remove all of your malware, you will have to follow the below procedures.

    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

Make sure you also rename HijackThis.exe as suggested in the procedures. Use analyse.exe for the new name. This is very important due to some new infections going around.

    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too:
      • CounterSpy
      • AVG Antispyware log - ONLY IF NEEDED you were not able to run CounterSpy
      • Bitdefender - from step 6
      • Panda Scan - from step 6
      • runkeys.txt - the log from GetRunKey.bat
      • newfiles.txt - the log from ShowNew.bat
      • HijackThis
NOTE: You can only attach 3 files in a single message so it will require that you use two messages to attach all of these logs!

Well, my boot time is about 20 minutes which is far too slow. It happened after trying to install a printer but removing it didn't fix the problem. I can't do a system restore either so a full re-install seems to be the only option left.

Did you check out the links I gave to you?

If you want to clean up all the malware and see what happens, follow the directions I gave to you.

I would also suggest a small experiment before you reinstall if that is what you are going to do. First do a total uninstall of all your Symantec/Norton software. Now check your boot time. Any change?

Well, uninstalling NAV did nothing. I have the option to use the recovery disc and then going to delete the partition via the Repair a Windows installation method. SHould I do this and then install windows on the next startup?

Actually you should continue to work this in the Software Forum since your problems are not malware. I thought your original message said you could not install because you had the below errors:
Are you saying that now you can use your Recovery Disk?

You do realize that when you do this that all info on your PC is going to be lost. Have you backed up everything you need?

I have everything I need yes.

It seems to be able to detect the partition when i select repair but not when I select install.
