    Hello,
You guy's helped me get my wifes computer running like it should, I hate to ask for more help on mine. But here goes. It has started slowing down. I went through the "read first computer maintenance". In add/remove programs I have removed "veiwpoint media player" but it comes back. There are also a couple of files that show up in C:\program files that I want to delete one is "musicmatch". The other is "CA pest patrol realtime" which I don't know how it got there. But if I try to delete the files I get an ERROR: "can not delete CA check.dll: access denied. Make sure disk is not full or write protected and that the file is not in use". The CA pest patrol shows up in the Processes and I have 48 running so I would like to get rid of it if I don't need it. I have 1 gig of ram and with 48 processes runniing at startup this thing is uses Commit charge: Total 455376, Peak 518316. Which seems like alot to me. I'm with AOL and have there McAfee protection which may be part of the problem. The "spybot" scan was clean and "avg" showed one tracking cookie. Please check my logs and see if it shows any problems.
    Thanks, Jas456

You are not having malware problems!

You installed it. Possibly when you installed software from your ISP. You should not be trying to delete files. You should be uninstalling the program via Add/Remove programs. Look for CA Pest Patrol Realtime Protection and MusicMatch or MusicMatch Jukebox in Add/Remove programs an uninstall them.

Yes it is double the problem. First using AOL is a problem (and it is also the reason Viewpoint keeps coming back), second using McAfee Security Center is probably your main reason for slow downs. In addition to uninstall CA Pest Patrol, you can do the below but the only thing that may improve performance is dumping McAfee.

    Run this ViewpointKiller

Now you can uninstall AVG Antispyware to help with your current performance issues.

Run C:\MGtools\analyse.exe by double clicking on it. This is really HijackThis (select Do a system scan only) and select the following lines but DO NOT CLICK FIX until you exit all browser sessions including the one you are reading in right now:

    R3 - URLSearchHook: (no name) - {EA756889-2338-43DB-8F07-D1CA6FB9C90D} - (no file)
    O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] "C:\Program Files\QuickTime\qttask.exe" -atboottime
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] "C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03\bin\jusched.exe"

    After clicking Fix, exit HJT.

Other than the above, McAfee and AOL are you main issues. If you decide to dump McAfee then you can follow the instructions in the below to get properly protected.

    Hi Chaslang,
Thanks for the help. The "CA pest patrol" and "musicmatch" do not show up in the add/remove programs. They also do not show in "CCleaners" uninstaller tool (which shows alot more than the add/remove programs do). So how do I get rid of these now?
I ran "viewpoint killer" and it removed viewpoint from C:\program files, but it still shows up in C:\doc and setting\james\appliation data\viewpoint and in
C:\doc and setting\local service\application data\viewpoint. I ran it twice with same results. I even ran it in "safe mode" and same result.
I am going to get rid of McAfee and go with one of the choices in the "How to protect yourself from malware" section.
    Again thanks, Jas456

The below should take care of Pest Patrol and get it out of the uninstall list.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.
Then delete the below folder if found.
    C:\Program Files\CA

Where do you still see MusicMatch

You can just delete these folders yourself.

I copied the text and added it to the registry but it still will not let me delete C:\program files\CA. It show the same ERROR : "can not delete CA check.dll:
access is denied. Make sure disk is not full and file is not in use".
The musicmatch is at C:\Program files\musicmatch.

    Thanks, Jas456

Boot into safe mode and manually delete all files and folders that are under the C:\Program Files\CA folder. Then delete the C:\Program Files\CA folder.

Just delete this folder too. Use the same method as above if necessary.
