    Hello Sicari.

Two Main questions. Are the ports your using to connect USB 2.0 ports, or are the USB 1.1, and also, is the cable your currently using possibly limiting your connection?

    Thanks,

Also is the external hd powered? How long is the USB cord you are using to connect from computer to external hd?

the hard drive is powered and usb 2.0 port, the cable is very short, no longer the 20cm and shouldn't be limiting my connection.

If this just started then I suspect the drive might be dying because there doesn't seem to be anything else wrong.
I'd still try another cable just to rule out a bad or even a wrong cable.
Perhaps the cable is only a 1.1 cable.
