My son has a HP pavilion a307x computer (told him thet are junk but he didn't listen) and he is having issues with his games (some of them anyhow). What its doing is the game usually starts out fine, it just starts to slow down as he collects things (such as more men, more weapons, etc). Is there anyway to keep it from bogging down in this situation? The specs are as follows--Using XP Home with SP3, Celeron 2.6ghz processor, 1.50 gig of memory, a samsung model sv0802n HDD (which tried to find the specs on but couldn't), and a NVIDA Geforce 7300gt video card. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It varies depending on the game. Some can have the features turned down, some might be at the very edge of playability.

What games is he having trouble with?

If it starts out well and gradually gets worse, you either need more RAM or more cooling. 1.5GB should be enough to play most games with low settings, but if we knew which games these are, that would make it easier for us.

Thanks for the response and the game is Command and Conquer Generals which is put out by EA games. I don't have much knowledge when it comes to gaming but I can find my way around to make some changes on the computer end of it, so just let me know what I have to do. Again thanks for the posts.

Go here and run the scanner on that computer. Compare the results to the minimum and recommended system requirements.

With any new game I always goto the makers site and DL any and all latest patches (their normally backwards compatible and thus you don't need the earlier patches). Then I defrag my HDD and finally I try and play the game. I have found if I follow the first 2 steps most problems become "self-resolving". Try that to start with.

I can't believe it didn't occur to me to bring that up.

    Thanks for mentioning that! :)

Ok I'll go do the patch since it gave me a thumbs up on the scanner as this computer being beyond the minimum requirements for the game. I'll post on if it works or not and thank you for the help.
