Slow IE opening/start-up Malware?

My computer has been getting very slow and sounds like there are all kinds of things going on when there shouldn't be. I checked my speed on 2wire and it's only 2.12. My son was going to porn/game sites and no telling what got picked up. I've run all the items off "READ & RUN ME FIRST", I also ran HouseCall. I'm attaching all the logs. I have MS Windows XP Home Ed. use IE browser, Intel Pentium 4A, 2018 MHz (5x404) 224MB (PC2100 DDR SDRAM) and use SBC High-Speed DSL. I hope that's all the info requested. I tried to attach all 3 scans correctly.

Also, should I back-up my documents and pictures prior to doing any of the changes -- and how do I do that.

You are running HijackTHis dierectly from teh ZIP file. UnZip HijackThis to C:\Program Files\HJT.

You have a few cookies on your system, and a couple items from HP that you may not want.

Run HijackThis from the new location and post a fresh HijackThis log.

I seems to be very slow when 1st opening IE and the 2wire speed meter shows 1.54 to 2.51 and very erratic which usually means malware/spyware. It also won't turn off without manually forcing the issue. Would I have better luck and protection switching to Mozilla? Is this whole mess something that could be better helped in another forum? Then... where do I go to find out how to keep the system operating and protected? Sooooooo frustrated!

 

Scan with HijackThis and fix the following lines:

Other than the above your logs are basically clean.

The speed you are getting is normal for a DSL connection. If yor speed falls below 1.5mbs the I'd be concerned.

 

okay --I checked and fixed those 2 lines, I've run a new scan and attached it. Thanks many times over!

 

Your HjackThis log shows no malware. However, WildTangent and BackWeb are installed on your computer. Both of these applications are considered Adware by many; and come pre-installed on HP computers.

Whether or not you remove these programs is up to you.

WildTangent produces an online gaming plugin bundle that consists of WildTangent Web Driver, WildTangent Multiplayer Library, WildTangent Updater and WildTangent GameChannel.

WildTangent asserts that the software bundle is safe, but many anti-spyware programs classify it as adware/spyware, mainly because it reports activity and games played to various servers. It doesn't spy or deliver advertising, but is generally unwanted.

backweb-137903.exe belongs to the Hewlett Packard Center and gives the user access to offers and recommendations from HP.

This is a non-essential process. Disabling or enabling this is down to user preference.
