    Hi all,

i have gone through all recommended malware removal instructions provided on this forum and posted all logs. please see this thread http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?p=1447038#post1447038

i have been informed that as no malware was found maybe my ridiculously slow machine may be due to a software issue.

    Any help would be appreciated.

My machine was running fine at one point then it started running really slow. I have 1GB of RAM.

    thanks in advance

Slow in general or just slow on the internet? Any errors in your device manager? Any recent upgrades or added software?

Hi there andybe what is your OS ?
If XP type in run %temp% and delete all the files that you see.
If Vista type the same in start and delete all files, don't worry if you see loads of files these are only temp files and aren't any good to you !
Then download this tool from this link http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=208809 even though you have ran ccleaner in the malware forum, this tool lets you clean all old registry items out, and also defrag your registry, and has an uninstall utility with which you can uninstall any old programs you may not want !
After doing this i suggest you defrag using defraggler http://majorgeeks.com/Defraggler_d5777.html from piriform, defragging a PC can sometimes take a very long time, so its maybe best to do this through the night when your in bed, just unplug it from the net and then start defragging !

Hope this helps you out !

    Rusty ! :)

    thanks guys,

    Windows xp professional sp3.

brandypeppy - slow in general - opening applications, even a window explorer window.no issues reported in device manager.

i recently had a clean out of a lot of software i didnt want on my machine anymore. a bunch of p2p players, spybot, adaware and some other things.

rustyjack - the temp folder has 2 files. will download the tools now and do as you say. i'll let you know what i find.

    thanks

I see from looking over your malware thread that you are running NAV. It has been known to slow computers down. I know you said it didn't before but this is 2010 and maybe NAV 2010 doesn't work as well as NAV 2009 did.
Just something to think about. Can you remember when you started noticing the slowdown? If it was close to the new year, that might be the cause.

    NAV isn't the problem
I've had this edition "10.1" running for a few years now.
    Thanks anyway

    Hi andybe

Try this and let me know how your PC runs, but before doing the below, do run the likes of Ccleaner (will have this installed as you did rhe malware steps) and run its cleaner and then the registry option, run the registry ibe until nothing shows for removal. Then defrag.

Then click Start - Run and type msconfig and hit enter, in the startup tab untick everything and reboot is your PC any better? if so enabke on at a time and reboot until you find your PC running slower.
