Slow Outlook after shutting down Messenger

Hi geeks, I have Win xp pro running Office XP. I have just used local group policy to disable allowing windows messenger to run. Then I noticed that my Outlook is taking a longer time to open (a whole 30 seconds longer) then before I did this. And when I disabled windows messenger this way on my wife's PC--same OS , I noticed her Outlook Express takes a lot longer to open. Any advice here would be appreciated--thanks

 

I am getting errors in Event Viewer/System Event ID 10010 Stating that the server cannot find some service. I think this has to do with turning off messenger in group policy.

 

Well, after using the program, the same thing happens--outlook opens too slow. It only opens normal when I set messenger to be allowed to run in the background. Will uninstalling it help?

 

sounds like outlook is still trying to load the messenger... the 30 second delay is windows timing out. Did you go into outlook's preferences and uncheck where it says to load the default messenger on program startup?

 

Ok I guess messenger has to be disabled in Outlook, fair enough. Does anyone know if MSN messenger is just as bad a security risk and resource hog? I would like to use a messenger for the household (something more advanced than net send) and aol does not give me an option of staying in the LAN also, does it. I would like something real time
