My boss tells me that her pc runs very slowly. I am the token pc guy in the building (they give me 1.5 hours a day, otherwise I teach). I ran housecall, and also Mcafee and came up with no viruses. I was told to run hijack this to see what was all running. I believe my boss is actually keeping track of how long it takes me to fix her pc. Here is the log. I think that Mcafee may be taking up a lot of the resources, but am not sure. I am no professional and am usually able to figure most problems out, but am somewhat being timed now.

    Hi and welcome

If you wish to check for malware then the software forum wouldn't be the correct place to post for help. You would be advised to look at this:

    Read & Run Me First
and then when you have followed thru all that, you must make a fresh post in the malware removal forum and attach the 4 requested logs that will be generated from running the tools. Then one of us will come along and review your logs. But you must understand that we have been very busy, and also the fact that we work threads on an oldest to newest basis must be taken into consideration, so your patience wil be appreciated.
again, you will have to be patient as there are people in the queue before you.
just an observation, you were running HJT from a temporary directory, which means if something went awry and the wrong entry was fixed, there is no back up!

When you follow our procedures there will be no need for you to use the copy of HJT that you have now, as it is included in the MGTools.exe. And also remember to attach logs, do not post anything inline like you have done here.

    Hello 123garster,

Kestrel is right on about posting hijack this logs in that fashion. Just a few observations, if I may. There are services running that don't necessarily need to be, such as igfxtray.exe, makes access available to graphics card / monitor settings via the task bar, and they can be accessed through the Control Panel. But this is possibly something the boss wants access to, need to ask questions. Also possible she is looking for a good excuse to upgrade her PC? Google and Dogpile are your friends. Depending on processor speed and amount of RAM installed, the newer internet security suites are resource hungry. I uninstalled Trend Micro PC-cillin Internet Security 2008 on three of our machines because of the hurry up and wait. Hope you get it all working to her satisfaction, I wear many hats in my current position as well.

Thank you both for your input. I will do this. I wasn't trying to rush you for an answer, I was just rtying to point out the demeanor of the person that I am working for. Most people do not understand that it may take ten times longer to fix a pc than someone who knows nothing thinks it is supposed to take. Sorry for the unintentional rudeness.

This should be the last two logs if I did this right. I told my friend that the hard drive is about 90% full and he said that the 3 megs that were still available shiould be able to run all programs. I am not sure of this. Also this pc is kind of old, so any feedback is greatly appreciated.

Drive could use a good overnight deframentation. Maybe even a Ccleaner job.

I have already run Ccleaner. I believe I defragged the pc once, but I also believe the first time I tried, I didn't have enough free disk spce. I had to remove some programs to free up space. I will try again. thanks to all!

I saw that you were having difficulty replying to this thread. This is because you have 2 user ID's and in the malware forum specifically, you cannot reply to threads if you are not the thread starter and/or authorized to do so.

Please reply and let me know which ID you prefer to use and I will make the necessary adjustments to your account(s). My suggestion would be to stick with the 123garster so you can continue in this thread.:)

    TIA!:major

Thank you. I also just figured out that I have 2 usernames. Please delete "garster" (eventhough it is my favorite) and please keep "123garster" as my username so I can continue posting to this thread. Suggestion well taken and thank you for being o top of this. It is amazing that you can tell that I was refused to try to post in th is thread many times. I finally figured it out, but don't know if that means I am smart for finally getting it or not for signing up with twouser id's and not realizing it.

    Your repeatedly humbled learner,

    Gary

    Hello, 123garster

Please attach the last requested log, as signs of foistware was seen in one of the logs:

MGlogs.zip - normally it is C:\MGlogs.zip - only attach this log from MGtools.exe DO NOT attach any logs seen in the MGtools folder.

No problem! Always glad to help out when I can.

As you prefer to keep garster rather than 123garster I can do that by changing your user name and deleting the other account. We don't usually change user names but there are exceptions to the rule.:major

I'll take care of it for you right now...give me a couple minutes and you'll be all set.:)

EDIT: All done! Welcome to MG's garster! ;):)

    Hello, garster

Your scan logs are too outdated to be of use.

    • Update the definitions for both MBAM & SAS.
    • Use this link - XP Cleaning Procedure to download the updated MGTools.zip -- and over-write your current version.
    • Run all scanners again in the requested order and attach the four new logs to your next reply

    Thanks!
    dr.m
