Hi, My PC is running slow.. I built it from scratch about a year ago and it's been fine. Recently it's running like a dog. I just know something's wrong.. however I need to make sure I don't have anything malicious on it before I can look elsewhere for the problem. I have run the recommended 'Malware removal' list. Yet it's still slow. I have posted my HJT list.. would any of you 'geniuses' take a quick look for me and tell me if it's ok?

    Welcome to MG's!

You need to run ALL steps from the READ & RUN ME sticky and you must attach the logs requested in step 6. Your HJT log by itself shows nothing and in many cases that is all HJT will show. HJT is not a malware scanning tool. That is why the other procedures are required. The other logs may or may not report anything. We shall see.

Thanks. I have run all the recommended tests and yet there's still a 'slug' in the works. I think it could be a case of checking the software next rather than rely on Malware issues.

    I repeat
You only ran BiDefender but you did not attach the log.
You should run Panda too and attach the log.

It is possible that you have no malware but there could be a rootkit that does not show in any of these.

Well they showed nothing either. Last thing to check is for rootkits, so let's try to dig a little deeper to see if anything is hiding.
    1. Please download and unzip Rootkit Revealer to your desktop.
    2. Please leave the defaults set as they are to:
      • Hide NTFS Metadata Files: this option is on by default
      • Scan Registry: this option is on by default.
    3. Launch rootkit revealer on the system and press the Scan button.
    4. RootkitRevealer scans the system reporting its actions in a status area at the bottom of its window and noting discrepancies in the output list. It may take a long time please disconnect from the internet and leave the PC to be scanned until it is finished.
    5. The log can be very large please edit out the items in the following folders in the log : C:\System Volume Information, if in the log, before attaching it.
    6. Please attach the the log here in this thread to your next post.

Sorry about the delay but my PC is chugging. It's taken me an hour to upload this file and refresh the page. IE and Mozilla is dying as well. I thinking it's more software than anything else. I've been unable tro edit the file as the PC is playing up.. apologies.

What file? And if it is larger than 250K, you will not be able to upload it. You will have to try compressing it into a ZIP file. Or if you have junk like I indicated in the C:\System Volume Information showing, you will have to edit it out.

Sorry.. the PC wont attach it. It's on 11KB in size. Will try again later.

Well that's 111 k not 11 k! And it is rather starnge to see all of those lines being pointed out as they are. Many of them make no sense in being hidden from the API. Like all the Java stuff for one example. I'm not sure what is going on here! Let's try another tool and see what it finds.

    Download Blacklight Beta
    • Hit I accept. It will take you to download page.
    • Download blbeta.exe and save it to the Desktop.
    • Once saved... double click blbeta.exe to install the program.
    • Click accept agreement and Click scan
This app too may fire off a warning from antivirus. Let the driver load.
      Wait for it to finish.
    • If it displays any items...don't do anything with them yet. Just hit exit (close)
    • It will drop a log on Desktop that starts with fsbl....big number
    Please post contents of log.

That't what I expected. No real rootkits were found.

You should go to this link to download the current version of Sun Java: http://java.com/en/

Then install it and then uninstall the old version you are currently running.

    You're welcome!

Did you install the latest Java and uninstall the old version and also delete the folders for the old version?

What is your current working status?

Good! But how is your PC's performance?

Hi, It's still slow. I've now put on 'RAMfreer' which seems to be helping. However, it's a more underlying issue that's causing it.

I would try discussing this further in the Hardware forum (maybe the software forum if Hardware cannot help). You may have other hardware related issues. Possible memory related. Running a memory test tool may be a good idea. Are all your memory devices the correct speed for your PC and are the all the same speed memory devices.
