Hey, a while ago i posted on the malware removal forums because my computer was really slow on startup but it turned out my logs were clean and my problem was not due to spyware. I was told to refer to the software and or hardware forum to see if i could resolve this issue. Since then ive reformatted (just in case) and still the problems remain.

My pc hangs after i log on at the welcome screen and when i try to open application they hang and crash and i have to wait untill everything stabilises and i can actually use the computer. i wondered if this was a problem due to the software im using etc to be honest i have no idea why this is happening and was wondering if you could assist me to resolve this problem. thanks any help is appreciated.

Is this before or after you've installed your programs as well?

If you have a noticeable delay running Windows alone (assuming you can truly compare it to a previous clean installation on the same machine), then I would suspect you have a hardware problem. (Typically RAM or hard drive)

its after ive installed all my programs and sorry for long time to reply just hadnt got round to it it kind of slowed down. Now it takes ages to load everything on startup so i dont think its a hardware issue.

    Hi

Using the software posted above could you post a full list of what is starting up with your PC, so we can see how many and what they are?

Main reasons for a slow starting PC, is one, too many applications set to start, of which the majority do not need to start, but sadly are set by default to do this, and secondly you could have two alike security programs running as in two Antivirus/Firewalls or Resident scanning Antispyware applications.

but a list of what you have starting will help to narrow this down.

ccapp is part of Norton's AV and I'm seeing it can slow down a computer. You can't disable it or you'll lose protection.
pinnacle driver check is part of pinnacle inastantcopy; that doesn't need to run at startup.
quicktime task doesn't need to run at startup
updreg is part of Creative's registration and doesn't need to run at startup

I can't find anything on instant tray
remote center has to do with Audigy and doesn't need to run on startup.

Before you renew Norton, come here and ask for free software that can do what Norton is doing with a bit less overhead.

ok ive disabled all of those items however i had to keep cthelper because it enables my sound cards volume control to sync to microsofts sound settings. i didnt disable ctfmon because i have ipod service on my pc and it said if you have this dont disable it. ive disabled ctxfihlp because i read its unecesssary but dont know what to do about ctsysvol. Also there are other startup entries such as webcam and instant tray what do you want me to do about these i can look the rest of them up and disable the appropriate ones if this will be any help to you?

ok ive worked out its my disc burning software and i dont need it running on startup instant tray that is, ok ive gone thorugh the list and have deleted all the entries which were unecessary i dont know what to do about ctsysvol (sound cards volume control) and start ccc (which i think has to do with my graphics card ati). Also startup is still slow but has improved slightly.

well ive disabled everything i need to the startup list and only have my needed programs like antivirus and printer etc so thats sorted.

But it still takes ages to startup ive been told its not malware, its not what programs im loading on startup i have 1gb of ram so i doubt its that also ive recently installed a new hardrive and reformatted completely recently to so i dont know what the problem is. Theres only a few possibilities i can think of:

    1.Software

    2.Hardware

    3. Drivers

i keep my pc well ventilated and a few months back got it cleaned from dust so im clueless unless my processor is on the way out or something. Also i set my hardrive to boot up first i cant think of anything else.

ive done that now and removed the entries i dont need, but my computer is still really slow on startup. Before i reformatted not long ago i tried the basic computer maitenance as well as disabling services and this didnt make much of a difference to be honest what should i do?

After reading the post i did in fact follow the guidelines i used the norton removal tool and completely removed it from my system and it made no difference to my startup at all. I also completely reformatted ie deleted the partition then created a new one, i completely wiped the drive and started afresh. I tried the basic maitenance steps and there was still no improvement i also tryed disabling services and nothing. So i did indeed do this not long after he suggested it i reformatted completely but must have forgotten to leave a reply but none of this seems to have worked so far.

A while ago i turned off one of the cpu cache settings in the BIOS(It was L1 or L2 cache, I cannot remember which). Doing this made my computer run like molassas but it would still boot up. Maybe check your BIOS and make sure the cpu cache settings are both on.

It's a long shot but worth checking.

ive had a look for that option in the BIOS but cant seem to find it im a bit stuck now because im not sure what else to try im thinking it could be something to do with the hardware or the drivers i dont know :confused
