Please Help! I have followed your direction on removing spyware, trojans and viruses... Most of that stuff seems to be removed but now Internet Explorer takes about 30 sec-1 min to load. Once loaded it works fine. Also, I can not open internet links from web pages. I am not able to post my hijack this log because I am unable to open up "manage attachments."

    Try the steps below.

    1. Quit all programs that are running.
    2. Click Start, and then click Run.
    3. Type regsvr32 urlmon.dll, and then click OK.
    4. When you receive the "DllRegisterServer in urlmon.dll succeeded" message, click OK.

If this does not resolve the problem, repeat steps 2 through 4 for each of the following files (in step 3, replace Urlmon.dll with each of the file names below):
    • Shdocvw.dll
    • Actxprxy.dll
    • Oleaut32.dll
    • Mshtml.dll
    • Browseui.dll
    • Shell32.dll

Windows XP and Windows 2000 only
Restart the computer to enable the changes to take effect.

    Let us know.

I followed your directions, steps one through 4 and also repeated steps 2 through 4 as directed. I rebooted (Win XP) and still no resolution. Any other suggestions?

I followed the link to download and then unzipped IEfix to a folder on C: drive. After clicking 'apply' it asked me to find the file "IEXPLORE.EXE" or insert the Windows XP home edition service pack 2 CD. I do not have the CD since XP was pre-installed. So I manually searched for the Iexplore.exe file and found it. The program then asked me to find another file (html32.cnv) and so on and so on and so on.... Finally, it said complete. I clicked OK, rebooted and still no luck.

    Hey Alan,

    Do you have SP2 installed?

Right click on My Computer and then click on Properties. Look at the System section, and usually the last line of the System section, it will either say Service Pack 1 or Service Pack 2.

Yes, I have service pack 2 (2002). I attempted to uninstall it over the weekend but could not find it anywhere (Add/Remove programs or by clicking 'show updates'). It must be listed as something else. Is it Windows Installer 3.1?

Go to the command prompt ( Start > Run )and then type the command Netsh winsock reset. Press Enter. Wait for it to finish and reboot.

    Try the links now.

Dude, I figured out the problem. I uninstalled Spy Sweeper and Microsoft Antispyware. One or both of these programs was blocking me from doing stuff because i would get a little blip in the right corner of my computer. The links work well now. Thanks for the help.

I can't think of anything I am missing, maybe some .dll's I missed, not sure. Wait for some other responses, hopefully.

    Alan,

I posted again and left before I saw yours. I'm glad you figured it out, I would have never considered that as a possible solution.

    Good job. :)
