Slow transfer rate in Messemger

I have recently switched from dial up to dsl.
(FINALLY available in my neck of the woods)
and now when I try to transfer or receive files it gives me the : You have a slow transfer rate. That I do not have a straight connection.
Has anyone had this problem or know where I can find a solution to this problem??

Its not a problem its how its supposed to be. Theres upload and download rates, when you send a file you are using your upload bandwidth, usually 256k or so. Which is very slow, anywhere from 16KBps to 32 KBps. Compared to download speeds of 768k to 3mb (bits not bytes)

Theres not much you can do. Companies don't give much upload bandwidth to the residential customers. Id love more upload to host some servers.

Thanks Wookie for that bit of info. I just thoguht it was weird I never got it using dial up , but now with dsl I get that .

It happens when both parties are behind a router, or NAT device (my dsl modem has NAT built into it).


At least, thats my experience. If I remove the router from my end, or them form theirs, the problem goes away.

Had this problem with a net connection of 1.5 megabits upload speed, and now this one, with 896 kilobit upload.

 

I was wondering how you disabled the NAT. i have sbc dsl and it might have it build in also
