small confusing problem

a friend of mine is having a problem and I've been trying to help her....but everything I do doesn't seem to work...we have cleaned out everything except this one problem.....a virus pop up is on her taskbar saying she is infected...it won't go away....he homepage keeps going to something telling her she has adware and is being watched from a remote computer....and whenever we get it delete and IE working it comes right back!....it won't load some web pages say adware is preventing it? can someone please help I have tried everything I know and she is thinking about reformatting but I know there has to be something not as drastic.....thank you!

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.

Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support

Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.

Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.

After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:

Downloading, Installing, and Running HijackThis

When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)

ok we tried all of that...she is completely clean of viruses TY.....but...she has this lil thing on her systray next to the clock....that keeps popping up saying she's infected....check the add/remove programs...not in there...checked the start menu not in there...got add/remove4good....not in there...the icon flashed green to red over and over

uhm...we did...it totally cleaned the pc....no viruses at all.....but this thing is still there!....we are running a scan now...and it said it found spyware quake fake....everything we did you told us did not find that.

My previous instructions asked for three logs to be attach after running the READ ME. You have not attached them.
