SMART - End Program issue ??

Not sure where to start. I'm happy to follow the detailed Malware procedure, but I'd like an opinion on my issue before I proceed.

When I shut down my computer a process called SMART does not shut down correctly and I ALWAYS get the "end now" dialogue, and it will not shut down until I click the end now button.

I've spent several hours now investigating this issue on the web, but I haven't found much. There seems to be some indication from one or two articles that this might be some kind of "nimda E" virus or worm, but it's not very clear. It's very difficult searching for this issue because the word "SMART" brings up alot of irrelevant results.

Anyone have any thoughts on this?

Since my first post I've scanned it with several tools and found it to be horribly infected. It's a secondary machine so I've decided to wipe it and reinstall the OS. Just easier in this instance.
