Smoking Deacon

Dallas, Tx. - A routine rush hour turned to tragedy Friday in the Dallas Metroplex. John Beaufort, deacon at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Plano, was driving home from work on Interstate 20 and smoking a cigarette when he unexpectedly saw his pastor in the car next to him.

His pastor, the Rev. Merlin Schwarz, recalled, "John saw me and immediately tried to hide his cigarette. I guess he slid it up his sleeve. Anyway, within a couple of seconds his whole arm was in flames."

Beaufort managed to pull over and stop. Rev. Schwarz was several lanes over and could not get to him. But as he watched, a Dallas police officer on a motorcycle navigated between the lanes of cars and stopped behind Beaufort.

"I couldn't believe what I was seeing," stated Schwarz. "John was waving frantically for help. The officer walked up, looked through the window, drew his pistol and shot John in the head."

The DPD is not charging the officer in the incident, since Beaufort was waving a fire arm when he was shot.

No gun control lobbyists were harmed in the fabrication of this story.
